The Global Services Legal team is seeking to appoint counsel to act as Services Counsel. In-house, public sector and private practice candidates will all be considered, but experience of working with international teams in a global business and a passion for supporting innovative technology and taking products and services to market are pre-requisites.

The Global Services Legal team is a strategic partner and product counsel while functioning as the integrator between various other parts of the Legal team, coordinating between the multidisciplinary areas of deep expertise across the wider Legal team, to deliver one holistic Legal perspective to the business.

Key Responsibilities

The role includes understanding and supporting the business strategy across Offerings, working to help manage and mitigate risks, comply with laws and company policies, and undertake ethical considerations in its endeavors. The successful candidate will be adept at finding new and effective ways to communicate with business clients, and across legal teams. Key responsibilities of the Services Counsel include:

  • Working with the business teams to evaluate the technology related to their businesses including reviewing inbound technology and data supply templates/agreements and outbound or client facing templates in different geographies, industries and regulatory environments. Evaluating how the inbound impacts the outbound.
  • Reviewing globally deployed software solutions and products and providing practical legal risk analyses, mitigation strategies, and go-to-market guidance for commercial teams promoting, selling, and negotiating client deals that include those products.
  • Evaluating new and building on existing industrialized processes for analysis and review.
  • Developing clear communication messages, guidance, templates and trainings regarding the technology/data components of software and platforms and services for sales and go to market teams, software development teams, technical teams and the rest of the Legal organization.
  • Establishing open lines of communication across stakeholder teams, legal and otherwise.
  • Developing effective and regular presentations for leadership.
  • Reviewing and understanding complex alliance and vendor technology transaction agreements and advising internal procurement professionals on preferred positions.

Taking on assignments as required by the designated Legal Leads for A&SE and Global Services Legal.

Basic Qualifications

  • Education: JD or equivalent degree or legal qualification and admitted to the bar (or local equivalents) in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law.
  • 6+ years’ legal experience of relevant attorney work, including:
    • Functional understanding of legal issues related to bringing new technology and software products to market in a legally compliant manner, including those utilizing machine learning, AI and third-party data.
    • Working knowledge of: (a) data and security privacy issues; (b) IP law; (c) open-source licensing; and (d) general product development considerations.
    • Basic understanding of the connection between in-bound agreements and client-facing agreements.
    • Technology transactional experience either in drafting and negotiating technology focused client facing and/or vendor facing agreements (i.e. data licensing, software as a service agreement, cloud, software license agreements, or software development agreements), in a law firm or in a fast-paced in-house legal department or military group.
    • Risk analysis, appreciation, prioritization, and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-house experience, or similar experience providing business-focused legal advice. An understanding of contracting under US law for a global corporation is preferred.
  • Interest in technology and particularly in cutting edge technologies.
  • Experience with software licensing or monetization strategies
  • Experience training other lawyers.
  • Ability to synthesize the risks presented by a collection of facts related to the business and/or its assets in a holistic manner and suggest pragmatic mitigations.
  • Interest in developing new ways of delivering legal guidance and support to coach business clients having varied levels of legal sophistication.
  • History of developing trusted relationships with business leaders.
  • Skilled at explaining legal issues and the real-world impact of the issues to non-lawyers.

  • Proficient at speaking and writing English.
