Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and driven HR Services Operations Specialist to manage and lead payroll operations within a regional or global HR shared services model. This role requires deep expertise in payroll, tax, and labor compliance, combined with fluency in both Japanese and English to ensure effective collaboration across local and global teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the end-to-end payroll operations, including monthly payroll, bonus payments, year-end adjustments, and statutory contributions.
- Act as the payroll subject matter expert (SME), ensuring compliance with local labor, tax, and social insurance laws.
- Supervise and coordinate with external payroll vendors, ensuring SLAs are met and issues are resolved promptly.
- Ensure timely and accurate execution of payroll processes including auditing, reconciliation, and approvals.
- Manage escalations and complex employee payroll inquiries in both Japanese and English, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Finance, Legal, HRBPs, IT) to drive continuous process improvement and payroll-related projects.
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring timely provision of payroll documentation and compliance.
- Maintain and improve payroll policies, procedures, and controls in accordance with global standards and local requirements.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members within the payroll or HR operations function.
- Contribute to system enhancements, automation projects, and HRIS/payroll system implementation or upgrades.

Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on payroll experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Deep understanding of Japan payroll regulations, statutory benefits, and tax requirements.
- Strong experience with HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., Workday, SAP, ADP, Oracle, etc.).
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team.
- Fluency in Japanese (native or JLPT N1/N2) and business-level English is essential.
