Student Engagement Coordinator

The Division of Student Success at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications and nominations for the position of Student Engagement Coordinator in University Honors.

Position Description: Reporting to the Chief Admissions and Engagement Officer, the Student Engagement Coordinator is responsible for leading the planning, implementing, and evaluation of programs and activities designed to promote and support the academic success, engagement, and a sense of belonging and inclusion of University Honors scholars at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. This position is also the liaison to University Housing for the University Honors Living and Learning Community and oversees all facets of that community. The Student Engagement Coordinator provides training, instruction, supervision, and oversight to undergraduate honors peer mentors, which are student employees. In addition, the position serves as the advisor to the University Honors Engagement Council student group.

Job Responsibilities:

· Plans, executes, and oversees student engagement opportunities for University Honors

· Plans academic, service, and social events for University Honors

· Creates weekly University Honors newsletter

· Collaborates with campus partners on ways to engage and retain students

· Develops and implements assessment measures focusing on student persistence within UH and the larger UTK campus

· Advises University Honors student group

· Provides direct supervision for Peer Mentors and student interns/workers who assist with engagement activities

· Assists with onboarding of incoming students during the summer

· Manages application and admission process for the University Honors Living and Learning Community (LLC)

· Plans academic events within the LLC to support University Honors goals and initiatives

· Manages LLC budget through University Housing

· Coordinates the peer mentoring programming for University Honors

· Advertise, recruits, selects and onboards peer mentors

· Provides instruction and training for peer mentors

· Monitors and evaluates peer mentors and mentor programming

  • Ensures the timely delivery of projects, programs, and services that cultivate university honors student belonging, learning, and success

· Supports additional University Honors initiatives as needed

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

· Master's Degree required

· Student life/student success or related experience. Will consider GTA or student mentor/ambassador experience

· Must have a Valid driver's license and willingness to drive a 12-passenger van to transport students for co-curricular events

Preferred Qualifications:

· Two years of relevant experience in a college environment (part-time work will be considered)

· Experience working with high-achieving students

· Experience planning and executing engagement programing

· Ability to establish and cultivate strong relationships to work collaboratively with scholars, campus, and community partners

  • Proficient presentation, outreach, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to understanding the needs of a diverse student body
  • Ability to effectively use Canva, Microsoft Office, or other relevant technology in the delivery of student services

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience planning events and leading and facilitating workshops
  • Supervision, training, and evaluation of student staff

· Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

· Program development and evaluation skills

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs

  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies (staff, students, faculty, parents, administrators, etc.)
