Summary:
Transfer & Hauling is a unit within the Facilities Services Rapid Response department that is responsible for all the moving of furniture and equipment, picking up surplus materials, and set-ups/take downs for special events conducted on both the UT Knoxville and Agricultural campus. This position serves as the Hauling & Transfer Service Assistant in the Transfer & Hauling unit.
Duties/Responsibilities
· Assists in the performance or work efforts related to transferring and hauling furniture and equipment and set-ups/take downs for campus events.
· Performs semi-skilled and skilled duties requiring some physical exertion, knowledge of techniques, use of tools and equipment and standard practices or operating procedures.
· Work efforts follow technical and safety guidelines and are performed under limited supervision.
· Assists higher level Rapid Response Team members in the conduct of their work efforts.
· May make work assignments, review and direct work efforts of UT Student Assistant employees.
· Operates equipment required to perform work tasks.
· Determines necessary equipment and material required to accomplish work effort and stages such in support of the work effort.
· Transports work materials and equipment to job site.
· Disassembles, cleans, repairs and maintains equipment following completion of work effort.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Required to operate large trucks such as, but not limited to, moving trucks with a cargo box up to up to 26 feet in length and must be able to drive this size and style of truck with competency in an urban and congested environment to include, but not limited to, parallel parking and backing up to loading docks independently by use of standard truck-mounted mirrors. Demonstration of this skillset may be included as part of the employment interview process.
· Ability to perform hard physical work including heavy lifting for long periods of time in all types of weather.
· Must have good communication skills, good organization skills, ability to read, understand, and interpret technical and safety procedures, ability to operate different types of equipment including a fork lift.
Qualifications
Minimum/Required Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED
· 1-year experience moving furniture and equipment
· Valid Driver's license
