THIS POSITION IS PARTIALLY GRANT-FUNDED
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Researcher 3 conducts translational research into amyloid-related diseases. Immunobiological research projects will be performed independently and in the context of a large research group.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports the design, production and evaluation of cell biology, protein-based therapeutics, and diagnostic reagents for amyloidosis, specifically antibodies and antibody-related molecules.
- Performs research focused on translational amyloid research in the fields of cell biology, immunology, animal models of disease, and protein biochemistry.
- Performs data analysis, draws research conclusions.
- Develops research plans and solves highly complex methodology, protocol, procedural and research problems through the original design of protocols and procedures.
- Manages day-to-day research decisions within a research team.
- Serves as a mentor for visiting undergraduate students.
- Prepares research project deliverables (manuscripts, grants, abstracts, reports, etc.).
- Presents findings at scientific symposia, as required.
- Assists with biosafety and EHS oversight for the Amyloid Program.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMEN
EDUCATION: Ph.D. in Biological Science or related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of experience in research in the fields of cell biology, protein evaluation, and protein production working with animal models, biological reagents, antibodies/peptides, patient-derived samples and/or radioactivity. Experience in independent research and project management and organizational skills required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Expertise and experience in cell biology, protein design and production, and protein characterization
- Experience in analytical techniques related to cell and protein analyses.
- Skill in protein biochemistry and characterization and assay development.
- Skill in animal handling and animal procedures - injections, anesthesia, etc. and advanced research techniques
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Skilled in experimental design and data management.
- Ability to manage a project.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.
