Position Title: Career Coach for Experiential Learning, Center for Career Development & Academic Exploration

Reports to: Assistant Director, Internship Development

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for the position of Career Coach in the Center for Career Development and Academic Exploration (CCDAE).

The Division: The Division of Student Success at UT works to engage each student scholar’s experience by supporting their unique strengths and goals. It collaborates with UT faculty and staff to help each student scholar maximize their individual strengths and understand how their strengths contribute to their academic dreams, career paths, and personal well-being. As a member of Student Success, the center’s mission is empowering student scholars to create and achieve career goals by providing comprehensive career education.

The Department: The center provides comprehensive career development offerings and resources to undergraduate and graduate students from nine academic colleges. Staff is comprised of 22 professional and administrative positions, 4 graduate assistants, 10+ peer career advisors, and several student employees. The CCDAE is committed to diversity and inclusion and helping students explore the impact of identity on career development.

Position Summary: The Career Coach for Experiential Learning's primary responsibility is to provide coaching, programming and resources on internships and other experiential learning opportunities to students in the UT Success Academy (UTSA). In conjunction with the Vol Edge program and the UTSA staff, the coach will assist students in preparing for and attaining experiential learning including internships, undergraduate research, global learning or service learning. Additionally, the coach will provide professional development opportunities to help students attain their career goals. This position will be co-located with the career center and UTSA central office.

Position Responsibilities:

Experiential Learning Coaching and Programming:

· Provide individual and group coaching to second- and third-year UT Success Academy students related to obtaining internships and other experiential learning opportunities such as undergraduate research, global learning, civic engagement and service learning

· Create programs and networking events that provide opportunities for UTSA students to engage with alumni, employers and other professionals to build connections, skills and experience

· Manage co-op/internship approval process for students in the UT Success Academy

· Support the Vol Edge as the initiative evolves including UTSA student participation in modules and experiential components

· Prepare students for the presenting at the UTSA showcase Collaborate with faculty/professional staff to deliver career development and employment information and services to various majors/classes/organizations/ departments (advising centers, student professional organizations, and others).

Career Development Coaching and Programming:

· Engage in employer development activities to assist in connecting students with organizations for internships and full-time jobs

· Plan and execute UTSA VolTreks, career field trips, to help students explore industries and work environments

· Utilize LinkedIn and ConnectUT, alumni and student mentoring platform, to help create opportunities and mentorship for UTSA students

· Develop curriculum for UTSA career development course and work with UTSA Director on course management

· Develop group programming to help fourth year UTSA students with their transition to full-time jobs or continuing education

· Serve as a liaison between UTSA students and career coaches who can provide industry-specific guidance

Data and Communication:

· Track and collect data on completion of UTSA experience learning requirements; create and disseminate reports to administration

· Collect and report on career outcomes data for graduating UTSA students

· Create learning outcomes for programs and conduct assessments

· Contribute to UTSA newsletters

Other Departmental, Divisional, and Professional Activities

· Departmental: Assist with major activities, events, and programs that are in line with the UTSA's and CCDAE's mission, including career fairs, orientations, visit days, etc., and community outreach;

· Divisional: Participate in division activities that are in line with overall mission of Student Success;

· Professional: Hold membership and participate in professional organizations that are aligned with job responsibilities to continue learning and development.

· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education

Required: Master's degree

Preferred: Degree in counseling, college student personnel, education, or related field

Experience

Required:

· One academic year experience (which could include graduate assistantships) working with college students or one academic year experience working with other clients on career development or job searching topics.

Preferred:

· One academic year experience (which could include graduate assistantships) working with college students in a setting related to career development, academic advising, student success, or diversity programming; Experience working with experiential learning programs.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Required:

· Strong interpersonal skills, including oral, written, and listening communication capabilities

· Knowledge of working with diverse populations

· Ability to plan, organize and coordinate events and programs

· Strong technical skills.

Preferred:

· Knowledge of job search strategies and career development theories, best practices, and resources

· Knowledge of on-line career database systems and other current/emerging technologies within the career development field

· Ability to build relationships across populations, internal and external to the University.

Salary: Minimum $49,000 and accompanied by a university benefits package.
