JOB DESCRIPTION
The Program Assistant will work under the direction of the Center Director/Program Director to assist in the development and facilitation of the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education program at UT Clyde M. York 4-H Center. The STEM program serves public, private, and homeschool K-12 students for local school districts. This position will provide assistance for educational programs that meet the needs of all eligible clientele regardless of age, race, color, national origin, sex, religion, disability or veteran status.
This position is a limited duration appointment with the potential for extended appointment based on funding.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching -Work cooperatively with the Program Director and all Clyde York staff in implementing a STEM based program for visiting students. This includes teaching of math, science, technology, and engineering, while assisting with supervision of students. This position will help implement experiential learning activities that will focus on the Tennessee state standards put in place by the Tennessee Department of Education.
Classroom Preparation/Integration - Assist the Program Director in adapting program areas throughout camp, activities and materials for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing the use of the environment and the outdoors as an integrating context in STEM education. Setting up the equipment and preparing materials prior to arrival of students, as well as picking up and packing materials and/or equipment at the end of the day.
General - All other tasks as assigned by the Center Director and Program Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Bachelor of Science required, a focus in Agriculture or Natural Resources Preferred
(A B.A. of Education may be substituted with applicable experience)
Knowledge and experience with technology, including computer skills. Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
Ability to teach in a classroom setting and have positive classroom management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills needed.
Ability to be enthusiastic and creative minded.
Preferred: Teaching experience in the Ag and Natural Resources field.
First Aid/CPR Training. Two or more year’s experience teaching/working with youth in formal or non-formal educational setting. Knowledge of, or experience in agriculture, STEM, and/or natural resource education.
Knowledge of Tennessee State Education standards.
