Accounting Specialist III
MR06 – Starting salary dependent on candidates’ qualifications and experience
Duties/Responsibilities:
This position resides within the Accounts Payable subunit of the Business Services Office, where expenses for the FS Department are processed, including payments for items purchased, services rendered, and other related transactions. This role is essential for ensuring complex accounting and budgeting activities are completed accurately and in accordance with established practices and procedures, ensuring correct accounting charges, timely vendor payments, and precise Campus, University, and State budget expenditures. The position also serves as the Departmental Reviewer, requiring in-depth knowledge of Fiscal and Human Resource policies. Additionally, this position oversees and supervises the work of Admin Support, Accounting Assistants, and Specialists.
Qualifications
Specific Duties to include:
· Coordinating and participating in complex accounting and budgeting activities in support of the FS Department's mission.
· Ensuring correct accounting charges against Campus/University/State Projects, Work Orders, grants, contracts, and ledgers; timely and accurate vendor payments; and accurate Campus, University, and State budget expenditures in compliance with Departmental or University Fiscal and HR policies.
· Acting as Departmental Reviewer, carefully reviewing fiscal and HR actions against journals, ledgers, contracts, and other documents for accuracy prior to forwarding to the Business Manager, Director, or Associate Vice Chancellor for approval.
· Leading and supervising the accomplishment of complex accounting, financial, or budgeting activities.
· Overseeing work performed by lower-grade Admin Support and Accounting personnel, assigning tasks, reviewing work, providing guidance, and ensuring progress.
· Identifying, recommending, or providing relevant training to departmental personnel.
· Assisting department personnel and senior staff with financial and budgetary issues by providing guidance on established policies.
· Serving as a backup in the absence of other Accounting Assistant/Specialist personnel.
· Assisting in audits of accounting records
· Assisting in audits of accounting records and compiling data for financial, budgetary, or HR reporting requirements.
Supporting the annual Assessment of Internal Controls and inventory reporting.
Required Qualifications:
· High school degree or equivalent
· 5-6 years of experience in financial or accounting roles within a large organization.
· Knowledge of accounting procedures with strong attention to detail.
· Demonstrated ability to take initiative, make decisions, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
· Effective communication skills, able to engage with a diverse range of individuals.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of SAP and KRONOS
