Research Associate 2-Surgery (Knoxville)
Job Description
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Research Associate 2 performs complex research projects in vascular biology for the Department of Surgery. This position aids the Principal Investigator (PI) in experimental design, proposal development, and manuscript writing. Additionally, this position works independently to conduct biological research and perform data analysis while working as a member of a multidisciplinary team and conferring with the PI.
Responsibilities
- Conducts research experiments related to vascular biology that include advanced molecular and cell biology techniques (Polymerase Chain Reaction, QPCR, primer design, in vitro cell and tissue culture, in vitro and in vivo liposomal drug delivery techniques, animal work (in vivo pre-clinical animal model), immunohistochemistry, high-pressure liquid chromatography, and other complex experiments.
- Writes grants, as well as abstracts and papers for publication in journals and academic meetings.
- Analyzes data on projects and reports findings to the PI.
- Confers with PI on ideas and experimental designs of ongoing and future projects in the field of vascular biology.
- Works on several different studies at any given time, as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Biomedical Science or in a related field. (Ph.D. preferred) (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of related experience; OR Ph.D. in related field of study. (Knowledge in grant writing, animal protocol regulations, lipid science, and statistics is preferred.) (Experience in standard laboratory techniques and working with laboratory animals is preferred.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of cellular and molecular biology principles and techniques.
- Ability to implement knowledge of biological assays in an effective manner in practice.
- Ability to assist and perform laboratory animal activities (survival and non-survival).
- Ability to be effective in data analysis and presentation using Excel and PowerPoint platforms.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends.
