Job Description
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Department of Nutrition is accepting applications for a part-time Standardized Patient (SP) position. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the education of our nutrition and dietetics students by simulating real-life patient scenarios. If you possess a passion for helping others and enjoy a dynamic work environment, we encourage you to apply. Hours vary and are scheduled on specific class days during the fall and spring semesters. Scheduling is managed by the course instructor.
Responsibilities
- Learn and perform assigned character roles while providing detailed personal and social information, health history, dietary intake, specific emotions, behaviors, and disease signs/symptoms during simulated learning situations. SPs most often play the role of patient, but may also play the parent, partner, or caregiver of the patient in a given scenario.
- Maintain confidentiality of information and remain in character while students are present in the room.
- Provide a consistent experience during all student interactions.
- Play the role of a patient while students practice skills in conducting a nutrition-focused physical exam, including weighing and measuring, evaluation of muscle and fat tissue and edema, and examination of skin, hair, nails, eyes, mouth, blood pressure, and other similar assessments.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned
- Provide constructive verbal feedback - per faculty/staff request
