Job Description
The Division of Student Life at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for as Staff Psychologist in the Student Counseling Center. Join a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians providing high quality, short-term therapy services at a thriving flagship University.
Start date may be immediately or through January 2025.
This exempt, year-round, full-time; non-tenure track staff position is part of the Student Counseling Center, the university’s primary facility for personal counseling, psychotherapy, and mental health outreach and consultation services. The mission is to promote the psychological, educational, and social well-being of the students at the University of Tennessee and to help prepare them to be productive members of a global society. The Staff Psychologist is a key member of the multi-disciplinary clinical team providing both clinical services and supervision for the center’s diverse training programs.
Responsibilities
Performs all functions of a campus comprehensive counseling center team member in a multi-disciplinary setting. Staff Psychologists provide individual and group therapy while also engaging with the campus community via outreach and consultation services with faculty, staff, students, and families around mental health concerns. Psychologists in the center also provide training/supervision for master's and doctoral level students in mental health professions, and advanced clinical training/supervision for interns in the center's internship and post-doctoral residency in psychology.
Approximately 65 percent of work load is direct clinical service via client care or clinical supervision, with the remainder focused on documentation, administration, meetings, outreach, or teaching training seminars. The Student Counseling Center staff’s typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with occasional opportunities for outreach or campus support on evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
What We Require:
Education: Doctoral Degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA Accredited Degree Program (Ph.D. or Psy.D.)
Experience: Licensed as a clinical psychologist, health service provider in the State of Tennessee, or ability to obtain license and meet all full licensure qualifications before start date. Candidate must show evidence of having passed the Examination for Professional Psychology Practice before start date.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to assess and intervene with students in emotional crisis
- Ability to provide individual and group counseling/psychotherapy
- Ability to provide clinical supervision of psychology students in training
- Ability to provide outreach programming on topics related to college student mental health
- Ability to provide consultation concerning college student mental health
- Ability to fulfill job functions in a culturally competent manner
What We Prefer:
Experience: Independently licensed as a clinical psychologist, health service provider for 2 years or more.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Experience with college student population or knowledge about issues relevant to college students
- Experience working with populations represented among the student body of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville
