Job Description
The Offset & Digital Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for printing projects that involve both offset and digital printing technologies. This role requires an in-depth understanding of printing processes, materials, production costs, and project timelines. To be successful, the Estimator must maintain excellent, supportive relationships with with sales, customer service, and production teams. The Estimator will work directly with clients as necessary to ensure that projects are quoted accurately, efficiently, and within budget. Outstanding customer service is a primary focus for this position. The work environment will be fast-paced, high-volume, and, therefore, requires a detail oriented approach while working within the UPM system. Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Estimate Project Costs:
- Evaluate and calculate the cost of production for both offset and digital print jobs, considering materials, labor, equipment, and overhead.
- Assess job specifications, production timelines, and client requirements to create detailed and accurate estimates.
- Work closely with the production team to understand the capabilities and limitations of the equipment being used (both offset and digital presses).
- Communicate with press operators, bindery staff, and other departments to ensure the feasibility of estimates.
- Keep up-to-date pricing databases for materials, labor rates, and production equipment costs.
- Double-check estimates to ensure they are accurate, complete, and in line with university standards.
- Ensure that all estimates are delivered within a timely manner and meet the client's deadlines.
- Participate in client meetings to discuss the scope of work and provide expert insight on print production processes.
- Prepare formal quotes for customers based on their requirements, ensuring all aspects of the job are accounted for.
- Communicate directly with clients to clarify project details and offer advice on the most suitable print process based on the project's needs when needed, or provide estimates to specific CSR.
- Address any concerns or changes to the job scope that might impact the estimate with front office
- manager.
- Assist the CSR's & team by providing detailed cost breakdowns and recommendations for specific projects.
- Review past projects to analyze the accuracy of previous estimates, identifying areas for improvement or cost- saving opportunities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or GED; Vocational or Technical Training
- Experience: 2-3 years in print production or estimating role
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Proven experience in estimating for both offset and digital printing environments; Strong knowledge of printing processes, materials, and technologies; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast paced environment; Familiarity with industry standards and best practices.

- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor's Degree
Work Location

- Office setting and in-plant production environment; visiting around campus as necessary to complete work
