Space Analyst - Facilities Services - UTK
Job Description
This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining a modern University Space Program and Database, leading the production, analysis and maintenance of the electronic models and associated data for over 17 million square feet of building space. This person will collaborate with departments across the institution to compile and maintain the space data; provide analysis and reporting of trends as needed and will utilize space analysis programs to aid University administrators in determining demolition schedules and building use changes. This position will set and maintain campus Building Information Modeling (BIM) Standards and implement the BIM Program and will work side by side with Designers and Contractors to ensure BIM models meet university standards and provide QA/QC of BIM Models and CAD Deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Develop a modern Space Program for the University; determine design/construction criteria that supports University BIM initiatives and maintenance of CADD Models and identifies problems as they are discovered.
- Determine how existing software incorporates into the program, and how to adapt the software as needed.
- Work with the Office of Capital Projects to ensure the Space Program is approved and supports both UTK and UT System goals.
- Use innovative solutions to solve problems and modify solutions when working with consultants and contractors.
- Explain and work with entities working on capital projects to incorporate BIM, CADD, HALO, and GIS as beneficial to the Space Program.
- Act as primary contact for annual space inventory that supports overall university funding.
- Work with a team to field verify, measure and update accurate building plans and space inventory information on all facilities on campus.
- Update the University's space database system with up-to-date information to allow stakeholders to access accurate information.
- Coordinate annual space audit with UT system to tabulate space inventory changes and update databases with current and accurate space functions and other information.
- Identify data trends and outliers, and errors or discrepancies in data or data collection.
- Work with team to edit drawings to reflect updated information.
- Perform other duties related to the collection, storage, retrieval, use, and management of UTK's Facilities Space Data and Building Archive Drawings.
- Provide data to inform the University's initiative to evaluate existing space utilization, and project future space needs.
- Work with Designers and Contractors to ensure room numbers are assigned in accordance with UT Room Numbering Standards.
- Oversee and modify room numbering and provide room signage schedules for internal or small renovation projects.
- Coordinate with the Office of Capital Projects regarding construction on campus.
- Coordinate with Construction Services, Utilities Services, and others to provide accurate space data.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Planning, Computer Science or related field
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in development, deployment, application, use of spatial information systems, associated software and services.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledgeable in construction and industry standards with ability to read construction documents.
- Must be able to understand and disseminate technical drawings and specifications from both digital and hardcopy documentation showing proficiency with Autodesk software, especially Revit and AutoCAD and BIM.
- Excellent computer skills and the ability to learn new software and computer systems.
- Ability to collect, analyze, manage data, and ensure proper QA/QC protocols.
- Skilled at working across multiple organizational levels.
- Excellent organization and creative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload, and work independently with minimum supervision, and take initiative.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work within groups and multi-task effectively

UT Facilities Services is responsible for the care and keeping of more than 300 facilities and utilities systems in and around Knoxville. As the University of Tennessee Knoxville’s largest non-academic department, team members are responsible for facilities maintenance and repair, custodial needs, landscaping and lawncare, utility work, in-house and capital construction projects, facilities planning and design, environmental initiatives, pest control, campus event services, and facilities administration functions for both the flagship campus and the agricultural institute. The Facilities Services staff provides around-the-clock coverage to ensure students, staff, faculty, and fans have a consistent and positive experience every time they step foot on Rocky Top.
