The primary role of this position is to oversee the process of submitting theses and dissertations as a part of graduate degree requirements. This requires reviewing theses and dissertations for formatting and tracking receipt of all necessary forms, documents and signatures by published deadlines. This position serves as the primary resource for students and departments related to the submission of theses and dissertations, including serving as the point of contact for the use of iThenticate plagiarism detection software. This position also assists with documentation of degree requirements for students in graduate certificate programs.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

  • College degree with a strong writing component.

  • Two years of work experience in office and/or educational setting.

  • Experience working with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

  • Experience working with word processing and/or publishing software.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and analyze complex documents for formatting requirements.

  • Has a strong attention to detail

  • Proficient with various software packages related to publishing of theses and dissertations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across a variety of stakeholders

  • Ability to organize work and function independently

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree

Experience:

  • Experience working in graduate education.

  • Experience with Banner or other student information system; database management; plagiarism detection software (iThenticate); and other higher education platforms (OnBase, Argos, Acalog, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to proactively identify existing or potential problems that impact students and suggest solutions.

Compensation and Benefits

UT market range: MR08

Anticipated hiring range: $52,000 – $55,000

  • Reviews theses and dissertations for compliance with formatting requirements.

  • Ensures that all informational materials (online and print) for students related to theses and dissertations are updated regularly.

  • Ensures that students who are submitting theses and dissertations comply with requirements and deadlines; this includes documenting that doctoral students complete the Survey of Earned Doctorates.

  • Serves as the Graduate School's point of contact for matters related to theses and dissertations. This requires interaction with offices across campus, primarily the University Libraries, OIT, and ORE. Also requires interaction with students and faculty on the use of iThenticate. These interactions may be one-on-one or as part of workshops.

  • Develops and conducts workshops as needed for students and departments.

  • Collaborates with library staff on archiving and cataloging documents.

  • Works closely with IT Administrator to develop and maintain web site information about thesis/dissertation preparation and submission.

  • Other duties as assigned.
