The position provides support to The Tennessee Ion Beam Laboratory (TIBML) by troubleshooting and repairing equipment and assisting faculty and students with research equipment and experiments as well as new lab set up. Additionally, this position provides IT support by maintaining and providing maintenance on accelerator and IT equipment for TIBML.

Required Qualifications
Education: High school diploma
Experience: At least 6 months of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Ability to communicate both verbally and written for coordination with supervisor, colleagues, and students.
Knowledge of safe work practices and protocols.
Working knowledge of various lab and computer equipment.
Knowledge of research and laboratory techniques.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job: standing, walking, squatting, bending, lifting.
Ability to solve problems.
Ability to provide high level diagnosis and repair of various lab equipment
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: 2 years of relevant experience

About The Department
The University of Tennessee Nuclear Engineering Department is part of the Tickle College of Engineering, which has the fastest growing PhD program among the Top 40 public colleges of engineering. The department has a diverse research portfolio and is the largest Nuclear Engineering PhD program in the United States with over 120 PhD students and over $17M in annual research expenditures. According to ASEE, it also has the second largest undergraduate program. In 2021 we moved into a new $129M building, which houses more than 23 new nuclear engineering laboratories and computational resources. In the past 3 years, our undergraduate program has experienced an unprecedented ~100% growth in first-year enrollment with 97 new freshman. UTK has close collaborations with ORNL, Y-12, and more than 150 nuclear-related companies within 50 miles of campus and is located close to the beautiful Smoky Mountains. TIBML Research Lab Support:
Performs and Coordinates installation, inspections, and repairs of equipment for use in TIBML.
Responsible for planned maintenance and routine calibration of instruments and equipment in TIBML.
Troubleshoots and diagnoses a broad range of scientific instrumentation and equipment
Performs high level, warranty and non-warranty, repairs of research equipment
Provides support technical instruction to students and faculty.
Moves equipment or coordinates with Facilities Services to have it safely moved between labs
Responsible for installation and assembly of new equipment and software
Daily operations of the accelerator and Implanter
Technical recording and reporting.
Coordinates installation and maintenance of computers and peripheral equipment.
Assists with annual inventory verification at TIBML
Provides assistance with the shipping and receiving function of the Department
