This position is part of UTK’s central IT organization and will be responsible for supporting all facets of student computer labs from planning to implementation & operational maintenance, both technical and logistical. This role will perform systematic analysis of complex problems and processes to determine solutions relevant to HE student computer labs. This position can function as a project leader or team member and work is completed with little oversight with overall accuracy and quality expected. This role will serve as a backup to the senior team leader and will provide guidance and mentoring to other team members as well as development of documentation.

The Labs Administrator position is responsible for all facets of managing the student computer labs including the design, development, testing, and documenting of lab processes. This role will perform systematic analysis of complex problems and processes to determine solutions relevant to Higher Education computer labs.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Experience:

  • Two years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of a wide variety of hardware & software

  • Ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems

  • Strong organizational & logistical skills with attention to detail

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with varied campus stakeholders

  • Excellent oral & written communication skills

  • Ability to develop documentation and training

  • Ability to handle medium to large projects

  • Knowledge of Wordpress and Sharepoint, or similar products

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience in a Higher Education environment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Wordpress, Sharepoint, HTLM coding

Work Location

  • Fully Onsite with occasional opportunity for work offsite

Compensation and Benefits

  • UT market range: MR12

  • Anticipated hiring range: $60,000 - $70,000

About The Division

The Office of Innovative Technologies (OIT) supports the university’s mission by providing customer driven IT services in a consistent and credible manner.


  • Ensures computer labs are stable, available and reliable

  • Ensures hardware and software are functional, with timely resolution of any issues

  • Works in concert with and acts as a backup to senior Labs Administrator

  • Gathers data and reports on needs of users, including operating systems and applications

  • Researches and analyzes newer technologies and develops plans for annual upgrades

  • Evaluates and provides QA for new configurations, ensuring all issues are addressed before deployment

  • Deploys hardware and software upgrades with minimal disruption to lab operation

  • Secures lab hardware against misuse or external access

  • Ensures compliance with university procedures

  • Provides asset management for labs

  • Works with hardware and software vendors as appropriate

  • Assists in maintaining internal and public documentation

  • Assists with hiring and managing student employees

  • Develops and provides training and documentation for student employees

  • Develops and provides instructions for lab users
