The University of Tennessee Student Health Center is seeking a full-time Staff Physician to perform medical services as a member of a physician-directed health care team specializing in primary care. The incumbent will work interdependently, independently and dependently as a member of a health care team. Duties will be carried out in accordance with established standards and ethics of the medical profession, personal clinical qualifications and the administrative policies and operational procedures of the Student Health Center.

To provide outpatient medical care in an ambulatory clinical setting to eligible students of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus.

The University of Tennessee Student Health Center is seeking a full-time Staff Physician to perform medical services as a member of a physician-directed health care team specializing in primary care.

Required Qualifications:

Education – Doctoral Degree from an accredited medical school

Licensure – State of Tennessee medical doctor’s license issued by the Board of Medical Examiners.

DEA Certificate – Must possess or can obtain a DEA certificate issued by the United States Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration

Experience – 3 years of experience as a licensed, *board certified physician in a private practice or hospital setting.

Board Certification - *Board certified by the American Board of Family Physicians, the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Pediatrics, or the American Board of Emergency Medicine. If within two years of residency graduation, they must be actively pursuing board certification within their specialty and will obtain and maintain board certification within one year from date of hire with UTK.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Must have knowledge of best practices for the provision of ambulatory health care.
  • Must have strong communication skills including the ability to relate medical information to and maintain rapport with a wide variety of student backgrounds and experiences.
  • Must have strong computer and word processing skills in a windows-based environment.
  • Must have basic knowledge of medical coding relating to CPT codes, ICD-10 diagnosis codes for medical documentation and billing purposes.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

Preferred Qualification:

Experience:

  • Experience in a college health setting.
  • Experience in the evaluation and treatment of eating disorders, and other psychiatric mental health issues.
  • Experience with the evaluation and treatment of sports medicine injuries.
  • Ability to speak a foreign language.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Compensation shall be determined based on education, licensure, board certification, experience, and UT market range (MR23_UTK).

Provision of Medical Services including

  • Outpatient ambulatory care for students
  • Treats specific disease entities, injuries, emotional problems, and minor surgical procedures.
  • Refers patients to specialists when indicated.
  • Promotes preventive health care through one-on-one discussions and provision of educational materials to patients.
  • Maintains adequate, legible, and confidential medical records on all patients.
  • Performs physicals when requested or indicated.

Other Administrative Duties including

  • Participate in assigned committees and SHC staff meetings.
  • Attend continuing medical seminars.
  • Periodically acts as a resource person or lecturer for students, faculty, campus, and community organizations.
  • Periodically accepts special assignments to serve as facilitator, liaison, and/or chief researcher in the formulation of draft policies, procedures, and recommendations in specific health/medical areas.
  • Serves as a Supervising Physician for Nurse Practitioners working for Student Health.
  • Agrees to abide by the policies and procedures as outlined by the external accreditation organization monitoring the UTK Student Health Center practices.
