About the Role: Do you enjoy assessing various types of electric trouble? As a Troubleman, you'll be a key resource for troubleshooting, repairing, and ensuring service reliability. Your duties involve restoring electrical service to customers by determining the nature of service problems, making repairs if possible, and requesting additional resources when needed. You'll also determine and notify customers if the issue is on their side of the meter and beyond KUB's scope of service. You'll work closely with System Operations to restore and maintain system integrity, performing switching operations in substations and on overhead and underground circuits. Routine system maintenance is also part of your responsibilities. In emergency situations, such as fires or accidents, you'll clear lines for public safety. This role requires you to climb poles or work from a bucket, demonstrating your competency with the APPA Safety Manual, the Hazardous Energy Control Document, and other KUB safety standards. You'll utilize mobile data systems to document fieldwork and location. You'll be working outside, often alone, in all kinds of weather, handling high-voltage lines and equipment. Your hours will include weekends, nights, holidays, and extended periods during system outages and events.

Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

Works with energized lines. Requires very heavy physical work including, but not limited to lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, operating equipment requiring physical strength and endurance, working in close spaces, awkward positions, etc. Requires ability of climbing poles and working from extreme heights in buckets, etc. Requires above normal mental and visual alertness. Requires physical stamina to work for extended periods of time during emergencies and in extreme weather conditions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program

  • Successful completion of KUB's Troubleman Training Assignment within 6 months of hire not to exceed 8 months.

  • Minimum 3 years experience as Journeyman Lineman in the power industry

  • Must maintain 60% Availability Acceptance Rate

  • Ability to make independent judgments and deal with people courteously

  • Must be able to think and react properly under pressure of time, weather and emergency conditions

  • Possess and maintain an excellent safety record and demonstrate proficiency regarding all aspects of safety regulations and procedures associated with the job task

  • Valid Class A driver license

Preferred Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge of KUB's electrical system

  • Proven Leadership regarding safety

  • Demonstrated experience & proficiency working with KUB's mobile data system

  • Demonstrated professionalism and customer service
