Position Description:

CGI is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, senior full-stack developer for a high-performing Agile team designing and building a modern, services-based web application for a large government agency. Our team is using a modern development stack including Angular, Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Docker, Cloud Technologies (Azure and Kubernetes) and various additional open-source technologies. You will have the opportunity help build and design enterprise web applications which will be used by government agencies, states, and industry to comply with federal reporting requirements, and share and visualize data. CGI seeks candidates with client relationship skills who want to have a direct impact on the mission of a large government agency. Candidates with strong Java skills and knowledge of software development best practices will have the opportunity to contribute to a geographically dispersed cross-functional team utilizing Agile methodologies and the Scrum framework to develop on cadence and release on demand.
This role can be located anywhere in the U.S. however, preferred location is Fairfax, Virginia.
Due to the nature of the government contracts this position requires US Citizenship.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
The ideal candidate for this position will be able to function as a senior developer and will demonstrate strong knowledge and experience in modern web application development, RESTful services, scalable cloud architecture, web application security, and Agile lifecycle. The candidate should have proven experience working with Angular and Java and be able to help demonstrate best-practices for code organization, component design, reusable services, and cloud-native architecture. This position requires complex problem-solving including the ability to design and build an application for optimal performance. The ideal candidate will also be interested in exposure and collaboration with other development teams within CGI to participate in architecture reviews, peer-solutioning, proposal support, knowledge sharing events, etc. Candidates should be excited about learning different development technologies, coding languages, and support tools and motivated to collaborate with other developers to continually broaden and enhance the group’s knowledge and stay current with evolving trends and best practices.
The candidate will be responsible for helping to define and code the ongoing architecture and development of an emerging Angular/Java/Spring application. The candidate will be able to confidently code and organize the application using best practices while helping to share their knowledge with the team and grow the teams’ skills and understanding of a robust Java application.
The candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Authoring and reviewing web application code in Angular (Typescript), Java, JavaScript,
Spring framework, etc.
- Participating in daily team discussions and code collaboration to promote continuous progress.
- Architecting and designing new system features and providing accurate estimates and
development timelines.
- Participating in client, industry, and end-user discussions to help provide technical viewpoint
on the application.
- Leading technical design sessions to create sustainable, high-performing features.
- Providing technical guidance to junior developers and business analysts on the team.
- Contributing to continuous improvement of existing development tools and technologies.
- Defining and maintaining standard development practices for the team.
- Integrating automated testing strategies into development practices.
- Augmenting and Improving system architecture.
- Understanding database design and optimizing application access to backend data.
- Participating in proofs-of-concept, hackathons, and cross-project solutioning.
- Interacting directly with clients and end users to understand software needs and talk through
architectural and technical design choices.
- Working with current and future open-source technologies integrated into the system (Elasticsearch, charts.js, Alfresco, Knockout.js).
- Proposing elements of technical architecture.
- Working with infrastructure administrators to design, maintain, and improve cloud-based
environments.
- Participating in testing efforts.
- Troubleshooting complex technical issues and creating elegant solutions.
- Mentoring and leading junior developers and team members.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
10+ years’ experience in software development and IT consulting.
Skills required:
- Demonstrated experience with Java and Spring development.
- Experience with Java application development and deployment tools including Tomcat, Maven, GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, Eclipse, IntelliJ, etc.
- Strong understanding of RESTful service development.
- Confident communication skills with both internal team members and customers. Able to effectively collaborate with third parties to jointly contribute to the project’s success.
- Ability to quickly research, learn, and apply emerging technologies within the software development industry.
- An understanding of cloud-native architecture and cloud technologies, especially within Azure and AWS spaces.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a dynamic team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other technical discipline.
- Ability to mentor and support junior team members while continuing to contribute and
complete work.
- Knowledge and experience with Agile development methodology and Scrum-based
development.
- Strong JavaScript skills, including JavaScript frameworks such as jQuery, Angular, NodeJS
- Ability to work well balancing multiple assignments.
- Self-starting and self-managing experience.
Due to the nature of the government contracts this position requires US Citizenship.
Desired Skills:
The following qualifications will strongly benefit a candidate:
- Agile/Scrum certifications and training.
- Experience using Atlassian tools, e.g. JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, Source Tree, etc.
- Government Consulting experience.
- Experience leading and/or managing similar software development teams.

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $95,600-$204,600
