Position Description:
CGI is seeking an experienced Scrum Master (SM) to support a large SAP software implementation using Agile development teams. The successful candidate will support business analysis and SAP development efforts, resolve and escalate impediments, manage risks, help ensure value delivery, and drive program‑level continuous improvement. The SM is accountable for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of value for the Agile teams.
The ideal candidate should have an understanding of SAFe Agile and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to help transition from a traditional waterfall approach to a hybrid SAFe Agile practice. The candidate will work closely with program leads, functional and technical teams, and the government client to fully understand and develop the user stories that the Agile teams will execute.
This position is located in one of CGI Federal’s offices in Fairfax, VA; Lebanon, VA; Lafayette, LA; or Knoxville, TN; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable. You will be required to work in a CGI Federal office two days per week.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
• Facilitate the coordinated preparation and execution of release planning for the Agile team.
• Work with the Agile team to prioritize the features to be considered in the next Program Increment (PI) planning cycle.
• Facilitate the Agile team’s refinement of features to be considered in the next PI planning cycle to meet the Feature Definition of Ready.
• Assist the Agile team in communication and coordination with stakeholders and customers during feature definition and delivery.
• Participate in daily stand‑ups, backlog grooming, sprint demos, and other Agile ceremonies.
• Facilitate effective communication and coordination during PI planning.
• Manage changes to the Agile team’s PI plan and assess the impacts of those changes.
• Provide regular and open communication across the program and to stakeholders for transparency and awareness of progress and impediments.
• Understand, visualize, and manage upstream and downstream dependencies.
• Drive delivery and continuous improvement by using feedback and metrics (quality, delivery rate, etc.) to identify areas of opportunity.
• Work with other teams to coordinate development and integration testing across multiple teams.
• Work with stakeholders and teams to drive continuous improvement.
• Participate with management and cross‑functional teams as a subject matter expert to develop and improve operating policies and procedures related to the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), and advocate for the adoption of Agile and SAFe best practices and processes.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
• Due to contract requirements, U.S. citizenship and successful completion of a CGI background check are required prior to starting work. Candidates must also be able to obtain and maintain a DHS EOD/Public Trust clearance.
• A minimum of 7 years of IT experience focusing on development projects using Agile frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban.
• Certified Scrum Master.
• Experience with SAFe methodologies.
• Experience with SAP implementations or Federal Government Financial Management systems (including an understanding of systems and processes).
• Ability to work with client business owners and end users to build well‑defined Agile stories, and to work with functional and technical staff to build clear acceptance criteria.
• Experience with Jira and Confluence.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, business administration, or a related field.
Desired qualifications:
• SAFe certification(s).
• Experience working as a Scrum Master in a federal environment.
CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $89,600.00 - $194,000.00.
