Position Summary: The Internal Communications Specialist serves as a creative and analytically minded storyteller for the Home Building Group’s (HBG) marketing and communications team. This position supports the creation, production and implementation of multi-purpose content for internal and external audiences.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Owns daily operations of Staffbase internal communications platform for Home Building Group, including supporting Team Members, creating and updating content across channels, using analytics to improve user experience, updating app to align with best practices, and managing role-specific pages and news channels.

  • Uses Staffbase internal communications platform, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office products to create and edit content as needed on projects.

  • Works closely with home building and supply facilities as well as builder locations, in addition to the corporate communication team on best practices and content development.

  • Researches, schedules, writes and edits a variety of multi-purpose content including, but not limited to internal and external communication platforms, newsletters, videos, websites and social media channels.

  • Supports external marketing efforts through promotional collateral creation, including social media content for retail partners.

  • Repurposes and shares content for use across internal and external channels, such as the HBG external blog, Opening Doors magazine, corporate communication channels, Staffbase, and CommCenters.

  • Supports ad hoc field communication needs.

  • Distills complex concepts into simple, coherent communications for different audiences.

  • Utilizes AP style formatting in writing; edits communications per AP style guidelines.

  • Applies company brand standards and follows company content style guides in execution of work.

  • Conducts analytical tactics to improve content reach.

  • Maintains content calendar for multiple content categories.

  • Performs administrative functions as needed.

  • Coordinates projects and schedules.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; degree in communications, marketing, advertising, or journalism preferred

  • Minimum 1-3 years related experience; experience on a corporate marketing team or agency preferred

  • Excellent writing talent required, as well as proper grammar and editing skills

  • Demonstrated creative writing experience and AP style formatting required; experience editing for AP style preferred

  • Experience with internal, B2B and B2C storytelling preferred

  • Experience using internal communications, social media and/or email marketing platforms preferred

  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite preferred

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Self-starter with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks

  • Works well under deadlines with a sense of urgency

  • Strong problem-solving ability and idea generation

  • Strong attention to detail required

  • Must be organized with ability to plan and track project tasks

  • Ability to receive and accept constructive feedback and guidance from peers and leadership

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to consistently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as telephone, calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc.

  • Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, and in person. Must be able to exchange accurate information with others.

  • Constantly works in an indoor, temperature-controlled, sealed-window office environment.

  • Work primarily involves sitting / standing.
