Position Summary: Provide engineering support to home building facilities. Requires the ability to read and interpret building codes (HUD Code, IRC, IBC, etc.) and architectural drawings. Identify ambiguities and errors in architectural plans and construction details and produce an engineering product (i.e. calculations, details, sections, specifications and guidance) that meets the architectural concept and applicable code requirements for the project.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Maintain library of construction manuals.
- Assist in preparing CAD details and drawings as necessary to maintain construction manuals and/or supplement architectural plan sets.
- Reviews and evaluates engineering change requests from manufacturing facilities.
- Provide support in code research and interpretation as needed.
- Review prospective new building products for code compliance.
- Phone call support, architectural plan review, prepare engineering calculations for seal by PE, and troubleshooting for home building facilities as needed.
- Be available to our home building facilities to communicate and provide assistance as needed.
- Ensure that all work created is complete and accurate prior to distribution.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of current materials used by manufacturing.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of residential construction methods.
- Periodically follow homes during the construction process to obtain knowledge of the manufacturing processes and provide assistance to the production team.
- Performs R&D functions, which include documenting, building, and executing tests on materials.
- Obtain Engineering Intern License & work towards obtaining a Professional Engineering License.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil, Mechanical, or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited university. EIT certification is a plus.
- 2 years’ prior related experience.
- Willing to work towards obtaining PE license.
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar Auto-Desk product.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret building codes and architectural plans.
- Ability to perform various foundational engineering calculations.
- Proficient using programs such as, but not limited to, Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) & Adobe Acrobat Professional.
- Intermediate level computer skills.
- Attitude that reflects a sense of urgency and a commitment to service.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to consistently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as telephone, calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc.
- Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, and in person. Must be able to exchange accurate information with others.
- Constantly works in an indoor, temperature-controlled, sealed-window office environment.
- Work primarily involves sitting / standing.
Travel Requirements:
- Ability and willingness for overnight travel as needed.
