Position Summary: The Construction Engineer is responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of complex engineering designs, construction, and testing of facilities within Clayton Home Building Group’s PSE department. This role will evaluate and approve engineering and construction related changes that could substantially impact the scope, budget, or schedule of Facilities projects.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Deliver value-engineered structural solutions for Clayton HBG’s manufacturing facilities across the U.S.
- Advocate for and interpret structural building codes, ensuring compliance and supporting industry standards.
- Evaluate and recommend building systems, collaborating with internal teams to assess current and emerging technologies.
- Ensure code compliance at all facilities and provide training to team members on applicable building regulations.
- Support field operations by resolving construction and code-related issues during project execution.
- Review engineering designs and prototypes, including work from external consultants, to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Participate in facility design reviews, ensuring optimal structural engineering approaches and documentation.
- Develop detailed cost estimates using RSMeans and manage project budgets and schedules using tools like Microsoft Project and ProCore.
- Lead project communications, including meetings, reporting, and documentation for leadership and stakeholders.
- Advise on hiring and managing external engineering consultants and implement solutions to resolve root causes of project issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, or construction engineering.
- 5+ years’ related experience required.
- Breadth of knowledge regarding applicable building codes and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
- PE license strongly preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, and in person. Must be able to exchange accurate information with others. Strong communicator with ability to articulate information to all levels of the organization.
- Work requires indoor and outdoor tasks in varying temperatures.
