For more than 25 years, we’ve provided comprehensive high-risk pregnancy services and delivered over 26,000 high-risk babies at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. We offer a range of care services for higher-risk pregnancies, including mothers over age 35, multiples, complications, birth defects, issues such as diabetes or hypertension, or pregnancies after infertility.

Position Summary:
Under general supervision, performs basic nursing procedures on patients. Assists physicians or practitioner with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.

Responsibilities
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Performs basic nursing procedures such as weighing patients, taking vital signs and listening to fetal heart tones. Performs venipunctures, blood sugars, and other lab procedures as indicated.
- Retrieves initial basic evaluation of patient and reports to appropriate practitioner.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families during visit; demonstrates sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy.
- Assists physicians or practitioner with examinations, various OB/GYN procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
- Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and necessary equipment.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient's medical records. Maintains all required reports, statistics, etc. Assists with filling out lab requests and filing lab results in patient's chart.
- Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and standards and takes corrective action when appropriate.
- Assists with cleaning instruments and cleaning and re-stocking examination rooms on a daily basis. Transports instruments to sterile processing as needed.
- Obtains informed consent after procedure has been explained to patient.
- Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to age-specific needs of the population served.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings and workshops.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
Minimum Experience:
One (1) year related experience required, or new graduate with less than (1) year experience.
Licensure Requirement:
Certified Medical Assistant required. CPR required.
