Position Summary:
Coordinates and monitors the verification, scheduling, and pre-registration of all outpatient diagnostic procedures, as defined under the Centralized Scheduling Department’s purview. Provides guidance to staff to ensure that all duties are performed accurately. Serves as a contact for physicians and their staff, patients, and hospital departments. Responsibilities include serving as a team lead to the Patient Access Specialists, issue resolution, accurate collection and entry of required financial and demographic patient information, scheduling queue management, verification of benefits, scheduling, payment collection, patient financial counseling, and monitoring of audit reports to ensure the accuracy of data entry.
Responsibilities
- Monitors audit reports for the insurance verification, scheduling, and pre-registration process to observe for entry errors and facilitates the correction of such errors.
- Monitors work schedules and makes adjustment as needed: ensures adequate coverage at all times, assists with vacation requests, and maintains continuity while providing coverage for absences.
- Monitors telephone queues and intervenes as necessary.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of departmental training manuals and workflow documents.
- Assists in the orientation and education of Centralized Scheduling team.
- Addresses staff process issues and daily operations questions.
- Professionally deals with patients, providers, and hospital staff members concerning the scheduling and pre-registration of appointments.
- Serves as a team leader and employee resource for the verification of insurance benefits, estimation of payment due (including self-pay), and collection of estimated payment.
- Serves as financial counselor.
- Demonstrates ability to keep abreast of regulatory and insurance requirements, ensuring that changes are documented and communicated to staff.
- Assists in the maintenance of department scheduling guidelines and coordinates with diagnostic department leadership and IT to update as needed.
- Provides assistance and support for employees.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a Bachelor’s degree in a directly-related field from an accredited college or university.
Minimum Experience:
Two (2) years’ experience in Registration and/or Financial Services area. Knowledge of third party payors and insurance verification required. Microsoft Excel experience required.
