Position Summary:
The Nurse Residency Program Coordinator is a registered nurse with demonstrated clinical expertise and instructional teaching experience. The Nurse Residency Program Coordinator reports to the Director of Clinical Education and partners with nursing leadership, human resources, nursing managers and preceptors, and academic partners to help new graduate nurses transition from advanced beginner to competent nurse while also fostering increased self-confidence, increased competence, and better interdepartmental relationships
Responsibilities
- Participates in the recruitment process of new graduate registered nurses.
- Coordinates enrollment in the Nurse Residency Program in collaboration with nurse managers, educators, and human resources.
- Designs, coordinates, and implements the program’s 6-month residency curriculum in alignment with organizational goals, evidence-based research, and industry standards.
- Develops and implements innovative models of instruction to support clinical and professional learning.
- Coordinates management of staff resources including seminar instructors, facilitators and content experts related to nurse residency.
- Provides mentorship and support to nurse residents, addressing their professional development needs and concerns.
- Facilitates residency retention meetings as necessary to aid in successful onboarding and retention of nurse residents.
- Collaborates with nurse leaders to ensure effective learning experiences for nurse residents.
- Reports residency outcomes to leadership and key stakeholders.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress and outcomes of the Nurse Residency Program.
- Conduct assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement changes as necessary.
- Collect and analyze data related to program effectiveness, resident performance, and satisfaction.
- Communicate regularly with nursing leadership, educators, and clinical staff to ensure alignment and support for the Nurse Residency Program.
- Facilitate meetings, workshops, and training sessions for nurse residents and clinical staff.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of nurse residents’ progress, evaluations, and program activities.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Bachelors of Science required.
Minimum Experience:
Two to three (2-3) years of experience as an RN in an acute care setting required. Instructional teaching experience, both formal and informal required.
Licensure Requirement:
Must have and maintain Tennessee State RN licensure.
