BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Maintains floors and carpets in accordance with standards set by the Environmental Services Department.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma/GED
Degree: General
License/Certification Required: None
Minimum Work Experience: 1-2 years related experience preferred
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to read and follow instructions.
- Able to demonstrate skills and knowledge for proper use of equipment and chemicals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Using the Roto (or Sidewinder) machine, strips and refinishes floors routinely stripping and removing all old finish and applies appropriate amount of finish without streaking or debris.
- Uses approved equipment such as an automatic floor machine, burnisher and extractor to clean floors/carpets and clean up floods.
- Removes and labels hospital waste into appropriate receptacles including bio/hazardous waste and chemo waste.
- Assists with conference room set-ups and periodically assists in moving furniture/boxes.
- Using appropriate cleaning techniques, chemicals and personal protective equipment, disinfects patient rooms, core areas and/or office, including dusting, replacing trash and linen liners, restocking supplies, and promptly reporting maintainence needs.
- Sweeps and damp mops all of the stairways routinely and vacuums and damp mops all elevators routinely
- Maintains work area and equipment in the condition required by department standards and responsibly follows the hospital control plans.
- Demonstrates an understanding and willingness that environmental care is an important part of the delivery of a care and service to East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
- Attends all required safety training programs and can describe role responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment and interacts with people in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner while maintaining confidentiality of all hospital and patient information
- Continuously displays a "can-do" attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer services program in place at the hospital.
- Provides complete and accurate responses to safety questions.
- Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Completes work assignments on time, and makes the transition to the next staff member smooth and efficient and willingly accepts any other assignments that may be requested, including flexibility when interrupted before finishing their current work assignment.
- Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably, and works efficiently and proactively informing EVS leadership of obstacles or issues that will impact meeting their work goals promptly.

- Heavy lifting, pushing and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently and 10 lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and stnding are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
