BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Clinical Innovation/Simulation Specialist is at the heart of developing, implementing, and refining dynamic simulation programs that elevate clinical training and improve patient care. You'll coordinate and manage all aspects of simulation activities, from scheduling to ensuring seamless execution. Your role will involve maintaining up-to-date policies and procedures, ensuring that simulation equipment is well-maintained, and managing the ordering and recycling of necessary supplies. You will also be responsible for mastering the facilitation, operation, and debriefing of simulations, while consistently advancing your expertise in these critical areas. Through your innovative approach, you'll contribute to improving patient outcomes and enhancing the overall efficiency of clinical operations, making a direct impact on healthcare excellence.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities: NO

Minimum Education: Minimum of certification/license or degree in a related field (Examples: Paramedic, EMT, MA, LPN)

Degree: Bachelor's Degree required.

License/Certification Required: BLS required. Preferred CHSE and/or CHSOS upon hire or plan to obtain within eligibility guidelines of SSH.

Minimum Work Experience: 2 years’ experience or training required. Experience in direct patient care required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrate effective communication and service excellence skills.
  • Experience preferred in VR platform integration and 3D printing.
  • Ability to use design innovation thinking.
  • Prefer experience in facilitating advance life-saving courses, i.e. BLS, PALS, ACLS.
  • Excellent communication and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills pertinent to use of simulation software.
  • Possess data collection and analysis skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with other ETCH members to participate in simulation scenarios throughout the facility. Coordinate and schedule the use of Discovery Innovation Simulation Center (DISC) scheduling and equipment via scheduling program within the center.
  • Engage in instructional activities to promote the development of critical thinking skills. Possess technical proficiency with the operation, maintenance, support, trouble shooting and repair of all simulation/innovation equipment.
  • Perform maintenance on equipment and arrange for repairs of equipment as needed. Ensure safe appropriate storage and labeling of all materials including educational medication bottles, fluids, and sharps. Ensure that equipment is in good working condition prior to the start of all simulation experiences. Provide design and creation for Moulage specific to with mass casualty drills, mock codes or other events as planned.
  • Support staff with development and implementation of simulation learning experiences including creation of scenarios and evaluation tools, preparing equipment and assisting in debriefing using simulation best practice standards. Support staff in innovative design thinking and utilization of innovation spaces. Support Virtual Reality education via platform usage.
  • Work with the Quality Improvement Department to initiate and participate in QI projects. Collaborate with ETCH staff to create simulation education throughout the institution. This includes helping create scenarios and objectives, assessing type of fidelity and equipment needed.
  • Work with Staff Development Specialists and other ETCH members to provide high quality simulation experiences for programs including education opportunities, nursing residents, nursing students, medical students and other learners. Participate with Code Blue Mock Codes.
  • Work with CRPC coordinator to initiate and coordinate simulation activities based on community needs.
  • Coordinate marketing of the simulation services both within the organization and to external organizations.
  • Maintain vendor relationships to ensure equipment is maintained and in optimal condition.
  • Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner with medical staff, hospital staff and outside organizations.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled Discovery Innovation Simulation team meetings to discuss program development and upcoming opportunities.
  • Actively pursue and maintain current knowledge of emerging trends in stimulation education in the healthcare setting.
  • Actively pursue innovation opportunities.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all simulation/innovation supplies and equipment.
  • Utilize hospital resources and time respectfully and with accountably.
  • Demonstrate ability to use time productively.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
