Pharmacist Supervisor, Outpatient Pharmacy Full Time Days

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Works alongside the Manager, Outpatient Pharmacy Services to oversee operations of the health-system’s pharmacies. The Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations including workflow duties, staff scheduling, day-to-day operations, financial management, licensure, and regulatory responsibility when applicable, and personnel management. Responsible for new employee orientation, and for updating and maintaining training materials and competency checklists. The individual in this position supervises the members of the team to ensure that all patients’ needs for pharmaceutical services are met. Monitors the quality of services provided; assures compliance with practice standards; assists in auditing the revenue cycle; and assists with development and implementation of the department’s goals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes
Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy
Degree: PharmD. degree preferred
License/Certification Required: Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Tennessee with license in good standing.
Minimum Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of supervisory or related experience, Minimum of 5 years work experience in designated role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Operations: Supervises all functions of the pharmacy department in such a manner to assure that services are sufficient to meet the needs of patients as determined by the Director of Pharmacy, Manager, Outpatient Pharmacy Services, medical staff, and administration. Provides quality phar
macy services and collaborates with physicians, nurses, other health care professionals as well as the patient/caregiver to deliver safe and optimal patient care for best outcomes. Provides superb customer service and communication as needed to expedite processing of patient orders. Provides drug information and/or presents educational programs to healthcare professionals and patients. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with medical staff to ensure optimization of medication use, storage, and delivery process. Resolves questions with other pharmacists, service lines and/or physicians. Answers the phone promptly and appropriately. Promotes and maintains professional relationships with other departments. Orients new and existing employees. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives. Maintains knowledge in the duties and responsibilities of the supervised department(s)
•Financial Management: Collaborates with key financial stakeholders to ensure revenue integrity. Maintains fiscal responsibility for supervised cost centers. Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably. Assists in monitoring purchasing practices to maintain sufficient levels of inventory while achieving acceptable rates of inventory turn. Effectively manages high-cost therapies.
•Data Management: Presents data in the appropriate format for the specific audience. Proactively communicates anomalies and variances with budget, purchasing, workload, or compliance data. Assists in the formulation and implementation of a plan for corrective actions. Provides oversight for data management responsibilities for direct reports. Assists in providing continuous updates for department’s key metrics.
•Compliance/Regulatory Affairs: Maintain compliance with pharmacy regulatory requirements and standards of practice. Assists in maintaining, interpreting, and evaluating pharmacy programs and policies and procedures following Federal, State, TJC and accreditation guidelines. Responsible for training, supervising, educating other staff members and disciplines. Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of and conforming to legal requirements concerning the distribution of drugs, as well as good working knowledge of recent developments in the field of pharmacy (continuing education by attending available conferences, meetings, and seminars). Assures adequate control and documentation of controlled substances.
•Leadership: Develop and maintain ongoing competence for the pharmacy department. Takes initiative for self-development and acquiring new knowledge related to pharmacy and healthcare. Assesses future opportunities to expand pharmacy services and make recommendations to senior management. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

•Medium lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 20-50 lbs occasionally, 10-20 pounds frequently and 10 lbs constantly to move objects. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure for lifting or moving of up to 100 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
