BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Supervises clinical nutrition staff and coordinates clinical nutrition services. Assesses nutritional needs, designs, initiates, and manages the nutrition care of the most complex pediatric patients. Serves as mentor to Clinical Dietitians.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

Minimum Education: Bachelors required. Masters preferred.

Degree: Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Food Systems Administration, or related degree.

License/Certification Required: Registered Dietitian in compliance with continuing education requirements of the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in the State of Tennessee.

Minimum Work Experience: 3 - 5 years experience in Clinical Nutrition Management preferred. Pediatric or neonatal experience strongly desired.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises formula mixing room including providing training, ensuring policies and procedures are updated and being followed, and maintaining recipes.
  • Coordinates Diet Manual and Diet Notebook.
  • Participates in the selection of medical nutrition products and contracts. Works closely with Food Purchasing Manager to obtain medical nutrition products from drug wholesaler, utilizing identified contract items when possible to maximize savings.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates an effective plan-of-care based on knowledge of physiology and assessment of nutritional needs, correlated with other health care plans.
  • Clearly communicates dietary history and nutritional care data through the medical record.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality assurance standards for food and nutrition services, utilizing current research and adjusting clinical practice accordingly.
  • Coordinates requests for community nutrition education programs (Making Healthy Choices, TV and Media requests, Obesity Coalition activities) in coordination with the Marketing and Community Benefits departments. Adheres to appropriate policies and procedures concerning media.
  • Actively participates in and represents Clinical Nutrition at Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committees.
  • Coordinates meetings of Nutrition/Nursing Task Force.
  • Compiles and develops effective educational materials to use as aids in nutrition education. Plans and conducts education programs as requested for RNs, PCAs, HUCs, Wellness, etc.
  • Provides effective input and recommends, trains, supervises, mentors, and evaluates Clinical Nutrition staff while serving as preceptor and mentor to Dietetic Interns and students in Clinical Nutrition.
  • Completes payroll and Kronos for Clinical Nutrition staff.
  • Prepares schedule for Clinical Nutrition.
  • Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.
  • Willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Medium lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 20-50 lbs occasionally, 10-20 pounds frequently and 10 lbs constantly to move objects. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure for lifting or moving of up to 100 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
