BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Works under general supervision in a team environment to gain a breadth of knowledge of assigned systems. Works with application teams to facilitate small to medium scale projects and maximize system uptime and data integrity. Maintains physical and or virtual hardware and performs tasks that present medium risk to the environment. Works with end users to ensure their experience with systems meets their needs and the needs of the organization.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education: Associate’s degree in computer science, server administration, or related field, Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Degree: Associates

License/Certification Required: None

Minimum Work Experience: Eight years’ experience in Information Technology, server administration, or related field.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Server and Virtual Infrastructure Leadership

  • Leads administration and optimization of physical and virtual servers (VMware, Omnissa, Nutanix) to ensure high availability and security.
  • Oversees patching, updates, and configuration standards across the environment.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting and performance tuning; drives capacity planning initiatives.
  • Evaluates and recommends improvements to virtualization architecture.

Enterprise Storage and Backup Strategy

  • Engineers enterprise storage systems, ensuring scalability and data integrity.
  • Designs and validates disaster recovery strategies; leads backup and recovery testing.
  • Ensures compliance with retention policies and proactively addresses storage growth needs.

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Oversight

  • Provides senior-level support and optimization for VDI environments (Omnissa Horizon).
  • Develops provisioning standards and security policies for virtual desktops.
  • Resolves complex VDI performance issues and guides resource allocation strategies.

Data Center Operations Management

  • Oversees installation and configuration of server, blade, and storage hardware.
  • Implements best practices for environmental monitoring, documentation and physical security.
  • Establishes operational standards for data center organization and hardware lifecycle management.

Infrastructure Monitoring and Security Leadership

  • Designs and maintains enterprise monitoring solutions for servers, storage, and network components.
  • Performs advanced log analysis and leads remediation of performance or security issues.
  • Champions security best practices and enforces compliance across infrastructure systems.

Documentation, Standards, and Mentorship

  • Develops and maintains comprehensive documentation for infrastructure architecture and processes.
  • Leads root cause analysis for major incidents and drives continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentors junior and mid-level administrators; provides technical guidance and training.

Project Leadership and Technology Evaluation

  • Leads infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and new technology implementations.
  • Partners with leadership on strategic planning and budget alignment for infrastructure initiatives.
  • Oversees change management compliance for all production system changes.

Advanced Automation and Scripting

  • Designs automation solutions using scripting languages (PowerShell, Python) to streamline operations.
  • Develops and maintains advanced scripts for monitoring, provisioning, and reporting.
  • Identifies automation opportunities and leads implementation to reduce manual effort and improve reliability.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serves as escalation point for Tier II/III issues and participates in on-call rotation.
  • Collaborates with application teams and IT leadership to ensure infrastructure supports organizational goals.
