About the Role: The Fiber Optic Designer will design fiber optic systems or review consultant designs. This role involves using advanced problem-solving skills to design fiber optic cable systems, develop fiber layouts, and determine allocation. The designer will be responsible for creating route maps, assessing terrain for cabling, and utilizing GIS software to plan routes and analyze geographic data. Designs will include underground fiber systems using electric prints, aerial placement designs, and splicing prints. Other responsibilities include establishing project budgets, selecting materials, and ensuring appropriate inventory levels. Designs will be passed on to contractors or project managers for implementation. The position will also provide technical assistance to other departments or customers, making recommendations for system improvements, estimating costs for labor, equipment, and materials, and analyzing system designs to support these recommendations. The designer will use advanced computations, GIS and CAD software, and engineering principles to design and optimize utility systems. Additionally, this role will involve processing and analyzing large datasets as part of system-wide planning to ensure designs are scalable and efficient for future needs.Qualifications

Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time in normal office conditions, but does involve walking or standing outside periodically for inspections, customer calls, etc. Works primarily in an office setting but includes routine field work and storm response duties that requires driving a company vehicle and walking on uneven terrain.
Minimum Requirements:- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, standards, and specifications
- Ability to work as part of a team to achieve department and KUB goals
- Ability to document daily tasks using Microsoft Word, Excel, or other software as requested
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license
Preferred Requirements:- 2+ years of relevant experience including outside plant engineering, network design, or telecom network operations
- Personal computer skills including Geographic Information Systems, database management, spreadsheet reporting, word processing, presentations, and project management software. GIS and field maps experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to manage multiple projects
