Classification: Utility Apprentice
Work Hours: 40+ hours / week: M - F
About KUB: KUB is one of the largest public utilities in the country providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric, gas, water, wastewater, and fiber services to more than 520,000 customers in Knoxville and parts of seven surrounding counties. We are looking for employees who want to be a part of a mission-driven organization with strong values that support a skilled, diverse, and inclusive workforce.
About the Role: The Utility Apprenticeship Program is a structured, two-phase initiative designed to train inexperienced, entry-level employees in both the practical and theoretical aspects of utility work. Utility Apprentices have limited to no prior experience and develop a skilled trade through hands-on training at KUB, gaining in-depth knowledge of the tools, materials, techniques, and equipment required for their job responsibilities. Throughout the apprenticeship, participants build expertise in all core utility skills and are evaluated regularly on assigned tasks and competencies, demonstrating mastery at each step within KUB’s established timeframe. Upon progression into the Service Technician role in the Meters Department, apprentices will work on KUB’s metering equipment that measures utility usage for residential, commercial, and industrial customers, which may include starting or stopping utility services and performing maintenance or repair work.
