About the Role: Take your work into the field and help maintain a safe, reliable power grid. We’re looking for a detail-oriented Utility Pole Inspector to independently inspect and audit utility poles across assigned service areas. In this role, you’ll use GIS data collection software and GPS technology through handheld devices to collect, verify, and assess critical infrastructure data. This inspection will be performed from ground with the potential to utilize drones for aerial inspections. Your work directly supports grid reliability, asset management, and storm response operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform utility pole inspections and audits across assigned grid territories

  • Collect and verify GIS data, GPS coordinates, and pole attributes in digital forms.

  • Conduct detailed condition assessments to ensure system integrity

  • Document joint-use attachments

  • Complete self-quality checks to maintain data accuracy and compliance

  • Utilize handheld electronic devices and potentially drone technology for field data collection

  • Support storm response and emergency restoration efforts as needed

  • Work independently to meet multi-year inspection cycle requirements

Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

Works outside 85% to 100% of the time in all types of weather conditions as the job requires. Must be able to walk long distances, up to five miles and more, daily while carrying portable equipment weighing approximately ten pounds over rough terrain. Work that is performed in the office is under normal office conditions. May be required to work unusual hours from time to time, as operational issues require.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • One (1) to three (3) years of demonstrated experience in related field

  • Ability to be proficient in use of mobile data and/or electronic data collection devices

  • Ability to communicate effectively to the customer or public about safety surveys when approached

  • Ability to work independently, in small groups, or a team to achieve department and KUB goals

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Requirements:

  • Three (3) or more years of experience with engineering, construction, or inspections

  • Two-year technical degree or series of related coursework

  • Demonstrate high work standards with quality in mind

  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Smartsheet

  • Ability to utilize ESRI Field Maps and/or computer-aided drafting software

  • Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification from FAA or the ability to obtain
