About the Role: Provides engineering and operational support to water and wastewater treatment facilities with a focus on process performance, optimization, and regulatory compliance. Partners with Operations, Maintenance, Laboratory, and Regulatory Compliance teams to improve treatment effectiveness, reliability, safety, and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:Troubleshoot process upsets, conduct root-cause analysis, and recommend operational or capital improvements.
Translate regulatory requirements (NPDES permits) into practical operating targets, documentation, and corrective actions.
Support chemical optimization, energy efficiency initiatives, capacity evaluations, and process control improvements.
Develop process calculations, performance metrics, and analytical tools to support operational decisions and long-term planning.
Assist with planning, design review, and implementation of capital improvement projects, including startup and performance testing.
Prepare cost estimates and support management of consulting and construction contracts.
Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure technical accuracy, operational applicability, and successful project delivery.

Physical Requirements:
Works primarily in an office setting, but field visits and field activities may be required. These field visits may include: emergency response activities and support beyond normal business hours, heavy lifting or strenuous work and mobility over rough terrain. Requires bending, stooping, lifting, and working in awkward and strenuous positions at times. Occasionally requires above normal mental and visual alertness. Physical demands for a specific position within this classification may vary and/or exceed those demands described above.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering in Civil, Biosystems, Mechanical, or related engineering field from a four-year ABET-accredited college or university
One (1) to three (3) years of demonstrated experience in related field
Strong analytical and time management skills
Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and team skills
Ability to work independently on projects in a timely manner and direct the work of others
Valid driver’s license

Preferred Requirements:
Professional Engineer license in Tennessee or ability to obtain
Three or more (3+) years of experience in water and/or wastewater treatment, preferably in a process engineering, operations support, or plant-focused role
Experience analyzing and optimizing treatment processes, including aeration systems, chemical dosing, solids handling, disinfection, and odor/gas control systems
Familiarity with interpreting plant data, SCADA trends, and laboratory results to support process control decisions and troubleshoot operational issues
Experience working directly with plant operations and maintenance staff, with the ability to communicate technical concepts in a practical, field-applicable manner
