About KUB: KUB is one of the largest public utilities in the country providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric, gas, water, wastewater, and fiber services to more than 520,000 customers in Knoxville and parts of seven surrounding counties. We are looking for employees who want to be a part of a mission driven organization with strong values that support a skilled, diverse, and inclusive workforce.
About the Role: Help design the fiber infrastructure that keeps our community connected. As a Fiber Optic Designer, you will play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of fiber optic infrastructure projects, supporting efforts from initial concept through final deployment. This role is responsible for developing and reviewing fiber designs, producing route maps and splicing plans, determining fiber allocation, and coordinating with field teams to support both underground and aerial installations. Using GIS tools such as ESRI ArcGIS Pro, 3-GIS, or similar platforms, you will analyze geographic and system data to identify optimal routes and develop efficient, scalable network layouts. You will also support project delivery by coordinating with contractors and internal stakeholders, tracking schedules, and helping ensure materials, resources, and construction timelines remain aligned. In addition to project execution, this role contributes to long-term network planning and system optimization, using data analysis and system modeling to improve reliability, scalability, and future expansion efforts. Success in this role requires strong technical problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality, constructible infrastructure solutions.
