Job Title: Gel Coater II

Summary

Applies gel coat to the mold using an atomized spray gun process system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Reads work orders and applies gel coat on hull and deck parts based on production order specifications
• Selects appropriate gel color adding catalyst as needed
• Must possess the ability to use proper spray equipment to apply gel-coat using appropriate settings, valves, and nozzles
• Must possess a general understanding of the concepts of air assisted equipment as they relate to gel-coat application
• Must know and be able to pull tape lines and trim with appropriate tools when necessary
• Assist in manually moving molds into/out of the gel-coat booths
• Maintain gel coat equipment as specified by PMs
• General housekeeping of area and equipment
• Assists in changing out 55 gallon drums and 5 gallon pails of material at gel pumps
• Must demonstrate the ability to make sound quality decisions independently
• Other duties as required

Qualifications

• Good knowledge and understanding of gel coating processes as they relate to the nature of the Malibu/Axis product and customer expectation
• Must be able to understand and execute top quality expectations
• Job requires standing and working in and around boat/molds throughout the entire day
• Must work efficiently and in the safest manner possible, following all safety regulations at all time
• Ability to read and understand to uses of a mil gauge

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, and to effectively communicate with management and subordinates. The ability to communicate effectively is a key element to achieve success in this position.

Mathematical Skills

General math skills required.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Work Environment

Safety glasses must be worn at all times

Respirator protection required

Tyvex covering required

Chemical resistant gloves required when handling chemicals

Typical 10 hour work days, frequent overtime required.
