Overview:
We are seeking an SAP Functional Analyst to serve as a vital liaison, bridging business needs with SAP and other technical solutions by gathering and analyzing requirements; designing and configuring SAP system processes; testing system configurations, enhancements, and customizations; providing support and training to end-users; and ensuring compliance with data regulations and security protocols. This position is in the Business Systems Group, which is part of the Business Operations Division in the Business Services Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). ORNL’s SAP environment includes Ariba, SuccessFactors, and the following core S/4HANA modules:
- Project Systems
- Accounting/Finance (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Controlling, Treasury, General Ledger, Travel, Payroll, Pension, Fixed Assets/Asset Accounting)
- Human Resources (Personnel Management, Organizational Management, Benefits)
- Materials Management (Purchasing, Inventory Management, Logistics Invoice Verification, Materials Requirements Planning, Material Master)
- Extended Warehouse Management
- Logistics – Sales & Distribution
- Security/Role Management
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Serve as liaison between the business and SAP development teams.
- Develop and propose solutions, including system configurations, to meet business process needs and requirements. Proposals include writing business cases, identifying requirements, completing gap analyses, researching technical and functional solutions, and converting customer requirements into technical specifications.
- Perform system configuration and testing.
- Support integration with cloud products.
- Troubleshoot incidents.
- Manage key stakeholders and act as primary support contact for customers.
- Manage and/or support projects for new initiatives.
- Drive process improvements to enhance business efficiency.
- Design/recommend reports and write data queries.
- Design and develop training content and manage communications with customers.
- Research, understand and incorporate organizational rules, prime contract requirements, other state and federal regulations, and security controls into system processes.

Basic Qualifications:
- BS/BA Degree, with an emphasis in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or other business-related areas with a minimum of 12 years of related experience in SAP configuration/development, designing and testing solutions, or similar experience or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and support multiple business areas.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and be highly motivated.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
- Experience with configuration, implementation, and support in one or more of the following SAP ERP modules desired:
- SAP Financial Accounting
- SAP Controlling
- SAP Payroll
- SAP Project Systems
- SAP Sales & Distribution
- User experience with SAP HR master data desired

Security, Credentialing, and Eligibility Requirements:
For employment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), a Real ID compliant form of identification will be required. Additionally, ORNL is subject to Department of Energy (DOE) access restrictions. All employees must also be able to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card as mandated by Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, which requires a favorable post-employment background investigation.
To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This investigation includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.

If you have not resided in the U.S. for three consecutive years, you are not eligible for the PIV credential and instead will need to obtain a favorable Local Site Specific Only (LSSO) risk determination to maintain employment. Once you meet the three-year residency requirement, you will be required to obtain a PIV credential to maintain employment.
