Overview:
We are seeking a Multi-Craft Supervisor who will focus on supervision of craft to support facilities renovations, facilities maintenance and research support. This position resides in the Facilities Management Division of the Facilities and Operations Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
In this position you will direct light construction, renovation, maintenance, fabrication, and equipment relocation activities performed by various skilled craft for facilities at ORNL. Craft Supervisors coordinate, plan, and schedule the work of others in modifying and maintaining ORNL facilities. They team with craft workers and other support personnel in task preparation and plan to ensure that work is conducted in a safe, secure, compliant, and efficient manner. Craft Supervisors work closely with building occupants to ensure that the facility modifications and service needs of research and support organizations are met promptly and in a cost-efficient manner.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain a business culture that focuses on meeting the needs of facility occupants, serving as the interface to ensure customers are fully informed about facility modification and maintenance tasks, schedules, status, delays, etc. in order to minimize customer's operational impacts. This ensures service needs of research and support organizations are met promptly and cost-effectively.
- Ensure that work tasks are accurately analyzed and graded according to ORNL work control procedures.
- Contribute to preparation of the Core Team's Annual Work Plan.
- Work with Project Managers and Planners to develop cost estimates and schedules for the modification and maintenance of facility systems and manage tasks within budgets and schedules in a manner that is compliant with environmental, safety, health and quality requirements.
- Ensure work is conducted safely, securely and in compliance with Laboratory policies, standards, and procedures.
- Participate in incident reporting, Safety observations, audits, assessments and ACTS where applicable as well as encourage open and ongoing dialogue about safety to promote a questioning attitude, a healthy respect for what can go wrong, and continuous learning from operational experiences.
- Responsible for the supervisory administrative functions including training, timekeeping, development, discipline, performance evaluation and feedback, etc.
- Responsible for on-the-job training, reviewing work activities, and evaluating performance and qualifications of craft workers.
- Hold staff accountable for performance and ensure their actions are compliant with all company policies and processes.
- Identify staffing needs and assist in hiring and retaining highly qualified and diverse staff.
- Maintain an open and supportive working environment where staff report issues and concerns without fear of retribution.
- Ensure completeness of records necessary to maintain configuration control, equipment history, continuous operations, and regulatory reporting.

Basic Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 9 years’ journeyman experience (i.e. electrician, pipefitter, HVAC, etc.) in maintenance and renovation of commercial/industrial facilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A strong mechanical knowledge and background is highly desired and general light construction knowledge is preferred.
- Proficiency in Lock/Tag/Verify and hazardous energy control processes is highly desired.
- Lead or supervisory experience is a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience working in and dealing with hazardous environments and materials.
- Familiarity with labor relations principles and working in a union environment.
- Proven leadership skills and be able to work well in a team environment.
- Motivated self-starter who can work independently and participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever-changing needs.
Special Requirements:
- Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
- Q clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
