Isotope Science and Enrichment Program Integration Manager
Oak Ridge National Laboratory
Requisition Id 15513
Overview:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking an Isotope Science and Enrichment Program Integration Manager to lead the development and oversight of master production schedules for stable and radioactive isotope production. This role is mission-critical to the directorate under strict DOE regulations and requirements. The position ensures that production schedules reflect true available resources—including staffing, facilities, and material inventories—and that all schedules comply with DOE, NIDC, and internal ORNL work acceptance processes.
The successful candidate will orchestrate, integrate, and manage production schedules across multiple facilities, balancing operational activities, safety and maintenance outages, and nuclear material inventory requirements. Schedules will be routinely reviewed and approved by senior management, making this a highly visible role with a direct impact on DOE mission success.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain master production schedules for isotope production across multiple facilities, ensuring alignment with DOE, NIDC, and ORNL priorities.
- Coordinate production activities with maintenance schedules, safety-related outages, and facility availability to maximize throughput and minimize conflicts.
- Serve as the primary interface between ORNL production teams, the National Isotope Development Center (NIDC), and senior management for scheduling updates and approvals.
- Ensure schedules accurately reflect staffing levels, facility readiness, and material availability while adhering to DOE nuclear material inventory requirements.
- Lead schedule integration efforts across multiple production processes, balancing competing demands to optimize delivery of isotopes.
- Prepare forecasts, variance reports, and “what-if” analyses to assess schedule impacts and resource constraints.
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks in scheduling and production flow, escalating risks to senior leadership as appropriate.
- Promote continuous improvement in scheduling processes, applying lean and Six Sigma principles where appropriate.
- Communicate schedule changes, risks, and progress clearly to leadership, facility managers, and operations teams.
- Ensure compliance with all DOE regulations, ORNL safety policies, and nuclear material control requirements.
- Deliver ORNL’s mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service. Promote equal opportunity by fostering a respectful workplace – in how we treat one another, work together, and measure success.
Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in engineering, operations management, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in production scheduling, operations planning, or program management in a complex, regulated environment.
- Demonstrated expertise with enterprise scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent) and MRP/ERP systems.
- Strong background in capacity planning, resource allocation, and production workflow optimization.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse technical and operational teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in DOE-regulated facilities, particularly involving nuclear or radiological materials.
- Familiarity with isotope production processes, chemical/nuclear engineering operations, or enrichment technologies.
- Proven ability to coordinate with federal program sponsors (e.g., DOE NIDC).
- Experience with safety basis requirements, nuclear material accounting, and regulatory compliance.
- Lean/Six Sigma or PMP certification.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience managing cross-functional teams in high-stakes operational environments.
Special Requirements:
- Q Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
- Visa sponsorship: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
