Senior Checker - US ITER (Hybrid Eligible)

Overview:
We are seeking a Sr. Mechanical Drawing Checker who will focus on providing drawing oversight for mechanical drawings generated in support of the US ITER Project. This position resides in the Design Assurance Group in the Technical Systems Division of the US ITER Project Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- As US ITER Project Sr. Checker, reviews all drawings generated by the US ITER Oak Ridge site office and its vendors to ensure drawings meet the standards and requirements for ITER drawings. Position also performs periodic reviews of drawings generated and submitted by US ITER Partner Labs (SRNL and PPPL).
- Provides design assistance and checks engineering drawings, provides master checker function to ensure quality control of all final drawings and revisions
- Provides guidance on application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)
- Ensure compliance with ANSI, ISO, ASME and ITER International Organization and other standards for drawing generation.
- Establishes ‘best practices’ for US ITER drawings and ensures dissemination among all US ITER designers via a monthly designer stand-up meeting as well as periodic updates/lessons learned sent to designer staff.
- Works with US ITER document Control Center to ensure accuracy and completeness of drawings and other engineering design documents in the DCC system
- Provides other functions at the discretion of the US ITER Project Office

Basic Qualifications:
- AS degree in drafting or engineering with at least 7 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience checking high complex fabrication and design drawings
- Experience applying GD&T as required to fabrication drawings
- Understanding of the application of ISO standards for design drawings
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
