What We're Looking For

BS in Mechanical Engineering (required)

2 to 4 years of HVAC design experience

PE license preferred; MS may substitute for 1 to 2 years of experience

Strong working knowledge of HVAC design principles and applicable standards

Hands-on experience with nuclear HVAC requirements

Proficiency in HVAC calculation software and building automation systems

Familiarity with quality assurance requirements and project management principles

Knowledge of energy efficiency and sustainability practices

The Role

We are placing an experienced HVAC Engineer for a large-scale, safety-critical industrial facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This is a hands-on role with real scope, from precision cooling for sensitive process equipment to major ventilation systems built to strict nuclear and regulatory standards. What You'll Do

Lead HVAC system design and analysis for a safety-critical industrial facility, ensuring high-integrity performance across all systems.

Develop and approve design documentation including system flow diagrams, duct layouts, equipment specifications, load calculations, and control sequences.

Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including process, mechanical, electrical, and nuclear safety engineers to integrate HVAC into the overall facility design.

Oversee and coordinate HVAC engineering work performed by the general contractor, ensuring compliance with design intent, nuclear safety standards, schedule, and quality requirements.

Ensure all HVAC design and construction activities comply with applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, DOE/NRC requirements).

Review and approve vendor equipment specifications, submittals, and drawings for technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Support safety and reliability assessments covering ventilation performance, confinement integrity, and testing protocols.

Conduct site visits, inspections, and commissioning activities.

Serve as a technical resource for junior engineers, reviewing deliverables and sharing your expertise.

Participate in technical reviews, audits, and regulatory inspections as needed.

Contribute to project planning, cost estimating, scheduling, and risk mitigation.
