JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Simulation Education Coordinator works with UT Health Science Center, University Health Services, and external faculty to develop and facilitate simulation-based medical education and research activities. This includes assistance with the development of simulation scenarios, assessment tools, and the operation and management of simulation resources needed to support a successful simulation-based medical education course. This position may also provide instruction to faculty, staff, and volunteers on lab equipment and operational procedures.


The Simulation Education Coordinator works with UT Health Science Center, University Health Services, and external faculty to develop and facilitate simulation-based medical education and research activities. This includes assistance with the development of simulation scenarios, assessment tools, and the operation and management of simulation resources needed to support a successful simulation-based medical education course. This position may also provide instruction to faculty, staff, and volunteers on lab equipment and operational procedures.

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of experience performing comparable duties and responsibilities described above; OR Bachelor’s Degree and one (1) year of experience performing comparable duties and responsibilities described above; OR Associate’s Degree and three (3) years of experience performing comparable duties and responsibilities described above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Skill in assessing and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide technical instructions.

  • Computer skills with the ability to learn new software programs used for the operation of simulation equipment and data tracking.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to walk, lift, push, pull, and reach.

  • Must be able to follow safety instructions.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.


  1. Prepares, maintains, and troubleshoots simulation equipment and materials related to simulation.

  2. Expands the field of healthcare simulation and UT Health Science Center’s visibility by 1) networking and collaborating at peer healthcare simulation programs and 2) serving as an ambassador of UTCAMS at local and regional simulation meetings/conferences.

  3. Provides assistance with creation or alteration of equipment for simulation events (moulage, bandaging, etc.).

  4. Coordinates the Simulation Lab activities to include sponsor communications, setup and cleanup of the lab, and operation of the simulation equipment.

  5. Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment (status, location, etc.) and operation manuals.

  6. Works closely with healthcare skills teams and faculty to integrate simulation best practices, technologies, and equipment into educational activities.

  7. Supports UTCAMS simulation accreditation efforts by maintaining documentation as required.

  8. Provides audio-visual and information technology support and services to facilitate educational activities.

  9. Troubleshoots immediate issues with simulation equipment and all other equipment used in relation to the simulations.

  10. Works closely with course directors, educators, and external faculty in delivering simulations.

  11. Monitors and documents usage data, evaluations, and contact hours through the simulation center’s management system.

  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
