The Office of Innovative Technologies (OIT) within the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is seeking to hire a Senior IT Support Specialist. This position is part of the central IT organization and will provide leadership, coordination, and project management within the OIT Desktop Support group.

The Senior IT Support Specialist will be responsible for providing subject matter expertise across the varied Desktop Support areas including security incident response for endpoints. The role will serve as a senior team member assisting the manager in supervising work groups, mentoring team members and leading projects. This position will support and collaborate with campus users including other IT at UTK and other campuses.

The Office of Innovative Technologies (OIT) within the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is seeking to hire a Senior IT Support Specialist 4. This position is part of the central IT organization and will provide leadership, coordination, and project management within the OIT Desktop Support group.

Required Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience

    • Associate’s degree and 7 years of experience

    • High school diploma/GED and 9-10 years of experience

  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    • Advanced technical knowledge and skills across both Windows & mac operating systems as well as a wide variety of university software applications

    • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, Intune, and networking

    • Broad knowledge of desktop security processes

    • Ability to analyze problems and quickly develop solutions

    • Ability to prioritize work ensuring efficiency, thoroughness and accuracy

    • Ability to create documentation and training

    • Ability to work independently or as a team member

    • Ability to lead projects and to lead and mentor team members

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    • Excellent organizational and logistical skills

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Compensation and Benefits

  • UT market range: 16

  • Anticipated hiring range: $88,000-$106,000

About The Division

The Office of Innovative Technologies (OIT) seeks to support the university’s mission by providing customer driven IT services in a consistent and credible manner.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing subject matter expertise in desktop processes

  • Providing team leadership

  • Supervising and mentoring team members and prioritizing tasks across multiple service

  • Leading projects

  • Researching, gathering and analyzing data to develop solutions

  • Creating technical documentation and developing training for group members as well as general campus users

  • Communicating with stakeholders and sharing solutions, processes, documentation and training

  • Managing application deployments such as Adobe, Intune, etc.

  • Serving as a liaison with other campus IT

  • Collaborating with other entities within and outside of OIT

  • Responding, documenting, and communicating security endpoint incidents
