The Digital Content and Accessibility Specialist is responsible for the development, management, and continuous improvement of educational and marketing content across UTIA digital platforms. The role ensures Title II accessibility compliance, alignment with institutional brand standards, and effective audience engagement through strategic content planning and optimization. The role exercises professional judgment in partnering with content authors, assessing communication needs, and determining the most effective strategies for creating, editing, and publishing content. It independently identifies opportunities for content enhancement, recommends best practices, and maintains documentation to support efficient workflows, long‑term planning, and optimized user engagement. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess excellent customer service skills, and display meticulous attention to detail. The candidate also will take initiative, demonstrate a sense of urgency, use good organizational skills, and follow through on commitments to achieve high-quality results.
The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture Office of Marketing and Communications is seeking a strategic, detail-oriented person with strong customer service skills to join the team as a Digital Content and Accessibility Specialist. This role is responsible for the development, management, and continuous improvement of educational and marketing content for the UTIA Solutions website and related digital platforms. The position works independently with content authors to develop, edit, and publish content, ensuring Title II accessibility compliance and alignment with institutional brand and communication standards. The role contributes to content planning, metadata management, and documentation of digital assets to support effective communication and audience engagement.
Required Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, information technology or related field.
- Experience:
- 2–4 years of experience in journalism, communications, marketing, IT, graphic design, or a related field.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- Working knowledge of WordPress and Adobe products, particularly Acrobat and Photoshop.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with strong customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education:
- Master’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, information technology, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 4–10 years of experience in a similar digital content or communications role.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture mission and operations.
- Experience working in a marketing and communications environment.
- Knowledge of HTML
- Knowledge of project management software.

About The College/Department/Division:
The UT Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) Office of Marketing and Communications works to elevate the profile of the Institute and its four units—the Herbert College of Agriculture, UT AgResearch, the UT College of Veterinary Medicine and UT Extension. The team does this through various means including strategic communications consulting, brand management, creative campaign development and media strategy. Other examples include social media management, media relations, crisis and issues management, internal communications management, graphic design, videography and production, photography, publications editing and production, website design and content consultation, displays and exhibits, podcast production, marketing and advertising, writing, magazine design and production, and event planning and execution. The team is charged with strategic initiatives that effectively share the Real. Life. Solutions. that are produced daily by the faculty and staff of the Institute.
Independently manage, develop, edit, and maintain digital content across UTIA platforms, ensuring Title II accessibility compliance and brand consistency.
Consult with stakeholders to assess communication needs and design strategic content solutions.
Oversee metadata strategy, content archiving, updating, and retirement based on institutional priorities and performance.
Contribute to communication and marketing strategy development as part of a cross‑functional team.
Monitor and analyze website analytics; prepare reports and make data‑driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
Coordinate with team members and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of digital content projects.
