Student Success Coach - Digital Learning - UTK

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Success, the Student Success Coach provides proactive and intentional academic and non-academic support to UT fully online undergraduate and graduate students. The success coach builds meaningful relationships with students that promotes their agency, self-understanding, growth, effectiveness, and persistence within the realm of education. The Student Success Coach builds working relationships with academic units, advising teams, and additional partners across UTK and ensures students have access to necessary resources and tools.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Experience: Minimum of one 1 year of related experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to resolve issues and problems; identifies trends and recommends alternative solutions to resolve problems
- Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to listen attentively to others
- Administrative and organizational skills
- Ability to rapidly adapt to new technology, practices, policies, and methods
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration, and other stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment subject to quickly changing priorities
- Ability to work effectively with students with varied backgrounds and experiences
- Ability to recognize critical situations and act on them in compliance with university policies and procedures
- Ability to manage time and schedule to meet department goals
- Ability to effectively support and communicate with students from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives
- Experience working in a student success, counseling, or support environment, preferably online or virtual. Experience with Salesforce.
- Knowledge of UT academic programs, colleges, and departments

Knowledge of current trends, issues, and best practices in higher education, counseling, social work, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master's degree
Experience: 1+ years of experience in one or more of the following: academic coaching, advising, student recruitment/retention, or related student services.

Compensation and Benefits
- UT market range: MR 08
- Target Salary Range: $50,000- $55,000

Success Coaching
- Engages in proactive outreach to empower students through positive reinforcement, building rapport and establishing meaningful academic relationships.
- Coach students on developing a plan to achieve their academic and career goals through time management, goal setting, study skills, learning strategies, resource referrals, etc.
- Provides high-quality student-centered support using text, email, phone, and chat, serving a significant volume of students in a fast-paced environment.
- Develops and uses extensive knowledge of UT Knoxville policies (academic and others) to help students navigate academic choices and improve student persistence.
- Monitors student engagement via dashboards and implements interventions as prescribed.
- Works to build student knowledge, skills, attitudes, and beliefs that support success.
- Employs case-management and other academic software to document coaching sessions and communication with students.
Recruitment and Retention Services
- Assists in new student onboarding to include online orientation and personalized welcome calls.
- Participates in recruitment activities and student retention initiatives including attending virtual open house events, information sessions, webinars, and other events as requested to offer guidance to new and returning students.
- Builds working relationships with academic units and advising teams across UTK and ensures students have access to necessary resources and tools.
- Utilizes resources and critical thinking skills to problem solve, quickly make decisions, and provide the best experience to online students at UT.
- Serves as liaison to an assigned academic and/or administrative unit to facilitate integrated student success functions and resolve issues of competing priorities
- Assume or coordinate other duties or projects as assigned or directed
