The College of Nursing (CON) at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, the state’s flagship research institution, seeks a Director of Finance and Administration. This position provides oversight for all budgeting and financial planning for the College of Nursing (CON). The role leads the development and administration of annual operating budgets for both restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and long-term goals. Through advanced financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting, the incumbent advises the Executive Assistant Dean of Finance & COO on fiscal strategy and decision-making. The position ensures effective stewardship of financial resources while maintaining accuracy, transparency, and accountability across all operations. The role also oversees comprehensive financial operations, including reporting, compliance, procurement, and year-end close, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and university policies. This position interprets financial policies, drives process improvements, and establishes best practices to enhance operational efficiency and reduce risk. The incumbent provides guidance in personnel and position budgeting, supporting workforce planning and compensation processes. Additionally, the role supervises financial staff and fosters collaboration across departments to strengthen financial performance and organizational effectiveness.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field
  • 4+ years' of progressive finance experience in a University setting
  • 2+ years' in finance leadership roles

  • Master's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field

Compensation and Benefits:

  • UT market range: MR14
  • Anticipated hiring range: $90,000 - $100,000

•Conducts financial forecasting, projections, and long-range planning as part of the strategic planning process to ensure successful execution of the College of Nursing's mission, goals, and objectives.

•Lead and manage the college annual budget process, including strategic financial planning, development of the annual budget, allocation of funds, ongoing budget monitoring, reporting, revisions, and projections.

•Oversees financial reconciliation, monthly reporting, and year-end close processes.

•Communicate standard operating procedures to department financial personnel.

•Oversees procurement and financial operations to include contract management, purchasing, billing, account structures, and expense approvals.

•Supervise Financial Specialist, Procurement and Operations Specialist, and a Student Financial Intern.

•Oversees Vine School Health Center business operations including monthly income statement, billing, bad debt writeoff, calendar and fee sheet process.

•Develops sophisticated analytical tools and to measure financial performance and advise leadership on the fiscal impact of new and existing academic programs.

•Aligns financial strategy with institutional priorities and long-term goals

• Produce and present recurring and ad hoc financial reports (monthly/quarterly summaries, variance analysis, spend-to-date, projections).

•Partners with HR and University Business and Finance offices to ensure unified priorities and strict adherence to mandatory regulations and audit requirements.

•Develops internal operational, financial, and budgetary procedures to enhance organizational effectiveness within the College of Nursing.

•Counsels and advises the Dean, COO, and department leadership on financial procedures, policy interpretation, and compliance requirements.

•Identifies and allocates funding to support activities and prepares the proposed budget reports, monthly financial status reports, and other ad hoc analysis requested by leadership.

•Review external facilities requests in 25 Live for CON space usage.

•Provide building access in the Command Centre for faculty and staff room/door specific access.

•Assess usage of space and make annual recommendations during the office allocation review process.
