The Medical Director organizes, administers, and directs all medical activities of the University of Tennessee Student Health Center (SHC), including administering and directing the professional activities of all staff Physicians, Physical Therapists, and Nurse Practitioners; the administration of the Laboratory and Radiology Departments of the Health Center; and provision of outpatient medical care in an ambulatory setting. This position works in partnership with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Life and/or Health Care Administrator to support coordinated and efficient Student Health Center operations.
Organizes, administers, and directs all medical activities of the Student Health Center (SHC), including administering and directing the professional activities of all staff Physicians, Physical Therapists, and Nurse Practitioners; the administration of the Laboratory and Radiology Departments of the Health Center; and provision of outpatient medical care in an ambulatory setting. Working in partnership with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Life and/or Health Care Administrator, the role supports coordinated, efficient Student Health Center operations.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Doctoral Degree (MD or DO)
- Experience: 5 years of post-graduate medical experience.
- 1 year of leadership/supervisory experience in healthcare (medical director of a private practice, program director/assistant program director in an academic medicine setting).
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Management experience in health care. Must have excellent communication skills to relate medical information for individuals of all ages and backgrounds; Ability to supervise all direct reports; Ability to work cooperatively with other key members of the management staff to ensure a quality provision of services for the entire Student Health Center operations. Computer word processing skills in a windows-based environment; Knowledge of medical coding and documentation for billing purposes required.

Preferred Qualifications
- Education: TN Medical License; Moderate Complexity Lab Director Certification; Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Experience:
- Supervisory/management experience in a health-related university environment.
- Supervisory/management experience in a health-related non-university environment.
- Professional background in providing college health medical care.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Professional experience in college health care. Excellent communication skills to relate medical information to adolescent and young adult individuals of differing backgrounds. Electronic Health Records knowledge and skills.

Compensation and Benefits
- UT market range: MR25
- Anticipated hiring range: Minimum starting salary $230,000. Final salary is commensurate with education and experience.

- Provide executive medical management of the Student Health Center (SHC).
- Supervise medical staff, including physicians, physical therapists, nurse practitioners, laboratory, and radiology staff.
- Development and implement operational policies specific to a clinical setting.
- Schedule, conduct, and moderate regular meetings of medical professionals/providers.
- Develop and implement short- and long-range medical plans consistent with the mission, goals, and objectives of the SHC, campus community needs, and in alignment with the Division of Student Life.
- Partner with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Life and/or Health Care Administrator to help ensure alignment between medical services and administrative operations.
- Provide medical expertise to inform operational planning.
- Provide direct outpatient ambulatory care for UTK students.
