The College of Nursing (CON) at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, the state’s flagship research institution, seeks a Biostatistician who can provide leadership in developing and providing statistical, data management, and data science support for health-focused research for a variety of clients in a variety of subject areas in the College of Nursing. The Biostatistician is an individual contributor working on complex interrelated data projects. This role works independently in complex and strategic areas, analyzing data, writing reports, and working with faculty to participate in the design of research projects. A successful candidate will have a strong background in health/medical science, excellent working knowledge of several statistical software packages (e.g., R, SAS, STATA, SPSS, etc.), and expertise in theory and application of probability and statistics. Experience and expertise with data security and confidentiality are paramount.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Master’s degree in Biostatistics, statistics or other related fields
Experience:
- Four years of relevant data analysis experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Strong background in health/medical science
- Excellent working knowledge of several statistical software packages (e.g., R, SAS, STATA, SPSS, etc.)
- Expertise in theory and application of probability and statistics.
- Advanced database programming language skills as well as in-depth knowledge of existing database structures and back-end practices.
- Excellent communications skills, both in writing and speaking
- Knowledge related to federal, state, or private grants and contracts, including policies and procedures
- Proficient skills with Microsoft Office

Work Location: Knoxville, TN – onsite
Compensation and Benefits:
- UT market range: MR12
- Anticipated hiring range: $95,000 – $105,000

Design suitable models and conduct analysis of large datasets to produce project reports.
Database programming, analysis, framework support, maintenance, administration, and quality control.
Produce data systems and datasets for state agencies and external researchers for program and policy analysis.
Develop data visualizations of complex geographic, longitudinal, and panel data.
Provide superb grantsmanship skills, as evidenced by a history of funding as a primary statistician and/or primary data scientist.
Consult and collaborate with faculty to develop analytic plans, recommend appropriate analytic strategies, write program code, analyze data and interpret findings design surveys and databases.
Support professional development activities on data management and statistical methods that are provided to CON faculty.
