Role Description

Reporting to the Director of Talent Development and Engagement, the Career Education and Engagement Coordinator plays a critical role in advancing workforce development, career education, and student engagement initiatives at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. This position falls under the Talent Development and Engagement Team, which is housed within the People Division of UTMC. The People Division includes the Talent Development and Engagement Team, Human Resources, and the Wellness Team, all working collaboratively to support both future and current members of the UTMC workforce.

The Coordinator will lead the logistical coordination and operational execution of career pathway programs serving nearly 3,000 middle school, high school, and college students annually. This includes oversight of experiential learning opportunities, school visits, shadowing programs, internships, externships, tours, and community-based partnerships that strengthen healthcare workforce pipelines across East Tennessee

Oversee and supervise UTMC’s collaborative program with the University of Tennessee — the UT Healthcare Ambassadors Program — comprised of 50–60 undergraduate students representing diverse academic majors and backgrounds, including nursing, pre-med, allied health, and related fields.

The Career Education and Engagement Coordinator serves as a vital connector between community workforce development initiatives and internal talent engagement strategies. This role directly supports UTMC’s commitment to strengthening healthcare pipelines, building early-career pathways, and enhancing employee development across the enterprise. Through strategic coordination, Ambassador oversight, and strong operational execution, this position helps ensure UTMC remains a regional leader in healthcare workforce innovation and engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least two (2) year of full time or equivalent part-time administrative and/or customer service experience. Must have two or more years experience working in workplace culture or youth development organizations supporting the success of individuals from all backgrounds.
  • Advanced computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet development and maintenance, email, and web applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn and utilize new software. Ability to interpret and apply administrative policies, regulations, and rules. Ability to compose correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage organizational budgets and expenditures.
  • Ability to analyze data and report on data analyzed.
